The UK's leading fitted bedroom company has reported a rise in annual profits, despite seeing sales fall.

Hammonds, of Hinckley, said pre-tax profits rose 6.3 per cent to £585,673 in the year to June 30, 2012. However, sales declined from £61.4 million to £58.5 million. The figures were recently made public by Companies' House.

Hammonds, which also supplies kitchen and home office furniture, makes all its products in Hinckley. It has about 80 stand-alone stores and concessions.

A statement in the accounts said: "The external commercial environment is expected to remain competitive. However, the directors remain confident of the continued success of the company."

Hammonds employs about 800 people. About 250 staff are spread across its head office in Nutts Lane, Hinckley, Harrowbrook Industrial Estate and a store in Trinity Lane, also in Hinckley.

Last year, it donated £500,000 to help the Woodland Trust plant more than 50,000 trees and preserve more than 4,000 acres of woodland.

Hammonds plants a tree for every bedroom it fits and every customer who buys a wood veneer bedroom receives a year's membership to The Woodland Trust.

It was founded in 1926 by Thomas Hammonds.
