Hip hop dancers help create a good mix of respect between the generations
Rutland: BigPinkHeart, a voluntary organisation raising awareness about positive social behaviour and promoting respect, held a Respecting Our Communities event at Rutland Water. The event was such a success that several young people joined the committee which wants to establish a National Day of Respect to be held every October 12.
This year's event was put together in four weeks by Sharon Clephane and Carol Haylock. They attracted visitors from the Fens, Leicester, Northamptonshire, Rutland and Lincolnshire.

About 20 dancers aged from nine and older from Jem's Hip Hop, a dance school specialising in street dance, gave a demonstration of their talents, and got members of the public to join in.
The youngsters interacted with more mature visitors and there was evidence of good mixing between the generations.
BigPinkHeart is currently working with a Stamford school and will be judging artwork depicting the meaning of respect drawn by children from Reception up to Year 6.
One of the next stages is to start up a BigPinkHeart Youth Council, so any young people who would like to volunteer some time and energy is asked to investigate details at www.bigpinkheart.co.uk.
