Leicester kept the heat on Investec Premier Division leaders Canterbury with a 4-0 victory over University of Birmingham.

It puts them just one point off top spot going into this weekend's final rounds of games before the play-offs begin.

Leicester have already guaranteed their place in the play-off semi-finals next month.

The Pukkas started in emphatic style against Birmingham, working the ball from the off to Jo Hunter, who opened the scoring with an effort from close range.

They did not give the students a sniff in the first half, and went into the break 3-0 ahead with further goals from captain Vanessa Hawkins and German ace Julia Karwatzky.

Leicester struggled to maintain their dominant performance in the second half. Their defence had to stand up to repel Birmingham's attacks and goalkeeper Maddie Hinch would have been delighted with the clean sheet.

Leicester did manage a further goal, though, with another close-range finish from Hunter to seal the 4-0 success.

Leicester will be going out with all guns blazing for their final home match on Saturday.

They take on Slough at Leicester Grammar School, Great Glen, hoping to take advantage should Canterbury slip up in their last match.

The Pukkas want as many supporters as possible to cheer them on, with the push-back set for 2pm.

Entry is £5 adults and £2 children, which includes a Pukka pie and a drink.
