Olympic bronze medalist Nicola White is about to close her books at Loughborough College and take her first step towards Rio 2016.

The 25-year-old Leicester Ladies player, who joined the College in 2006, is set to join up with the rest of the Great Britain women's hockey squad in May as preparations begin to build on their historic medal at London 2012.

But first she has unfinished business – completing her course.

"It will be sad to leave college, but I've got a lot to look forward to," said White, who has a key role in new coach Jason Lee's GB squad.

"I'm now regarded as one of the senior players, so I will be looking to pass on some of my experience to the younger girls who are joining up with us."

White admits the next Olympics still seems "a long way away", but has an immediate target this summer.

"We've got the World League coming up in June, so I want to be a part of that," she said.

"I've had a good season with Leicester and am fit and ready to go. Rio is now the goal. We want to be consistent medalists at the top level."
