Horse racing: Leicester Racecourse hoping for bumper 2013
Leicester Racecourse are hoping for better luck with the weather in 2013, which could prove a bumper year for the Oadby track.
The course again have 32 fixtures – but 10 of the 2012 allocation were abandoned.
The problem was that most of those lost were in the summer, when frequent downpours left parts of the track waterlogged, ruling out the meetings which are the course's biggest crowd-pullers.
But, despite racing being abandoned, about 5,000 people turned up on Ladies Day – Saturday, July 7 – when the course went ahead with a programme of family entertainment culminating in a concert featuring 1980s pop stars Heaven 17, Belinda Carlisle and ABC.

The success of that venture has encouraged Oadby to plan three big-music fixtures next summer.
General manager David Maykels believes that is the way ahead.
He thinks that racing has to find innovative ways of attracting newcomers – hence the concerts.
Maykels said: "If you can get big-name acts from the 1980s, you can attract an audience of the mid-30s to the mid-60s and, hopefully, they will enjoy it and come back."
The course is licensed for crowds of 10,000 but, for comfort reasons, they stopped selling tickets at the 7,000-mark for the 2012 Ladies Day. "We could have sold 12,000," added Maykels.
The three big days next summer are scheduled for Saturday, June 15, when Rick Astley and Bananarama are due to perform; Saturday, July 6 (The Human League and The Blow Monkeys); and Sunday, August 11 (Peter Andre and Bjorn Again).
The crowd limit will be 8,000 for each and Maykels is confident all three will sell out.
