Hospital worker 'faces daily abuse' on streets
A hospital worker says she is running a daily gauntlet of abuse from householders fed up with parking problems.
The NHS worker, who has asked not to be named, has had her car wing mirror smashed, rude notes left on her windscreen and found her car blocked in on several occasions near Glenfield Hospital.
People have also sworn and shouted at her for parking outside their homes, she said.
She has been on a waiting list for a car-parking permit from University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust for six months.
She said her only alternative was to pay the £10 daily charge in the hospital's public car park.
"I am not doing anything illegal and I am always careful not to block anyone's drive," the woman said.
"I have been accused of not wanting to pay for a permit, but I haven't any alternative.
"I can understand that people find it annoying, but it is very intimidating when they shout. On occasion, some can be very abusive."
Susan Newman, who lives in one of the affected streets, Glenfield Frith Drive, said there was no excuse for anyone to be rude.
She said: "It is never acceptable to act like this and I don't know of anyone who has done so."
Hospital bosses said they were working hard to find more staff spaces. Rob Pinsent, director of facilities at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, said: "We are well aware that we have members of staff waiting for parking permits at Glenfield Hospital.
"We are in the process of trying to secure additional spaces.
"We hope to finalise the plans shortly.
"All being well, the extra capacity should be available to our staff in the spring."

“Just to clairfy some points here. I am not the other poster nor do I need to sign in as someone else to help me with my point of view because its my point of view nothing else and I care not what you Matt or anybody really thinks about it! 2. some of you people eariler posted about my comments on a 'racist' attack on a taxi driver, just wanted to point out that if you actually tracked the story onto the national news and the local television news (indeed it made it that far) then then you would of also known they took out every single part of it being a 'racist' attack! as nothing could substantiate the drivers claim! do the maths! I hope you keep this in LM although i doubt you will.”

“NOTE TO EDITOR
Given all these comments, would it be possible to set up a discussion form, like some other Newspapers have, to facilitate discussions like this ? Anyone could initiate a topic and others can reply - like comments facility but presentation is better for on-going debates”

“Good on you Daniel, oops I mean Terry.
Love to know how you justify that viewpoint. A person inconveniences you whilst in the process of simply trying to get to their place of work, that person isn't necessarily aware that they are causing anyone a problem and on top of that they aren't breaking any laws as you don't have any right to the piece of road they are parking on. Your response is to verbally assault (or worse) this person and vandalise their car.
It's like a wife beater saying his other half deserved it because she burnt his tea!”

“Carrie- I am well aware spaniels cannot speak, I was speaking metaphorically (big word so you may want to refer to a doctionary- numpty!). As it happens I live on Barclay Street in Leicester and staff from the LRI park frequently on my road, I assume whilst they are at work. Similarly on a Saturday when there is a match on you have a chance in hell of parking on your own street. But what can I do? threaten, jibe at people?- no, of course not, but that is what Daniel is advocating. (oh God I have given away my street perhaps you and Daniel will now stalk me and do 'even more to me' than the people did to the NHS worker) Or perhaps is Carrie Oakey (ha ha) just Daniel under another name? I agree with what anothe reader said why can't everyone just be civil to each other. So people park on my street- so what? It hasn't got yellow lines or permits so to be honest what can I do and really isn't life a little too short to really get that wound up about it”

“I have not read all these comments but the few i have seems to sum up this country. We all need to work (well most) Why can not people be civil to each other. I have been blocked in on occassions so what it was not life or death. Alittle inconvenience is not the end of the world and to damage and threaten anybody is just not on. If we read a young lad had been caught commiting these offences we would all be slagging of the youth of today, but i find most adults are just as bad. Come on everyone chill out and smile. This lady is serving the community .”

“When will people get it through their heads, if you pay car tax you are entitled to park on any road (restrictions permitting obviously!). So you can't park outside your front door? diddums, use your legs and walk, it's not that difficult. I'm pretty sure there are worse things going on in the world at the moment.”

“Ok, I stand corrected, Daniel has found a SECOND like-minded soul.
Just how far 'with' him are you? Do you support his stance on the intimidation of women, destruction of property? or maybe you think the nurse in the story deserved 'worse' as sinisterly implied by Daniel himself.
Or are you really Daniel under a different identity?”

“Surely it is the Hospitals place to ensure nurses have somewhere to park. If not they should use the car parks and pay not inconvenience the locals. Disgusting.”
