Hunt for man after robbery at bank in Leicester city centre

Police are hunting a man who carried out a raid on a Leicester city centre bank early this afternoon.

The man attacked a security guard who was delivering cash to the Yorkshire Bank in Horsefair Street shortly at 12.25pm.

The guard was taken to hospital with what police described as minor injuries.

It is understood bank staff locked the front door in an attempt to detain the robber, but he smashed his way outside.

Glass from the shattered door was strewn across the pavement and the bank was closed and cordoned off.

PoIice said they believed the man escaped empty-handed.
