Police are hunting three men who stole money and jewellery from an elderly couple during a distraction burglary.

The incident happened at about 5.20pm on Monday, February 11, in Brookside Crescent, Ibstock.

The two victims answered the door to a man who claimed there was someone on the roof.

The suspect entered the property and carried out a search saying he would look for suspicious characters.

While he was in the house, one of the elderly residents realised there were another two men in the house.

All three men left at the same time after stealing various items including bank cards, money and a quantity of jewellery, including a silver necklace with a pearl in a small setting, a gold ring with a ruby stone and a pair of gents gold cufflinks with a green setting.

The suspect who knocked the door and entered the house is white, about 20 and of medium build. He was wearing a hat and dark jeans. The second suspect is white, in his early 20s and thin. He was wearing a woollen hat and dark clothing.

The third suspect was about the same age and was wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Julia Newton said: "This was a distressing incident for the victims and I am keen to trace the people responsible for this crime.

"Were you visited by someone in similar circumstances or did you see these men acting suspiciously in the area?

"If you believe you can help with our investigation, I would urge you to contact us immediately. Any calls received will be treated in confidence."
