Hunting: Rock star warned off

Queen guitarist Brian May may have jumped on the anti-hunting stage, but I fear people in rural communities are not going to take lectures from a cosseted London rock star on how the countryside should be run.

The Quorn Hunt and others like it are part of the fabric of our countryside tradition.

Many people who haven't made millions from the music industry have traditionally relied on it to help their living, or in the case of farmers, defending their livestock.

This is a subject that needs to be debated by those who know about it, rather than a rock celebrity who has not chafed his hands on anything other than a guitar neck.

Councillor David Parsons, leader, Leicestershire County Council.

“You really have done no research have you, unlike Brian May who has done nothing but research what he is talking about, People may make a "living" from hunting but millions of other people also make a living not hunting, so that is NO excuse you sad little man, what hard work have you ever done then? sometimes traditions are out of date and need to be changed, I find it truely weird that people like to kill foxes, makes me wonder what other sick pleasures they get off on.”

“David Parsons, your comment means nothing. You haven't used a single fact about Brian May or hunting in it. Its just a biased attack using cliches. It is devoid of fact or truth. If this is evidence of how you conduct your political life, the voters of Leicestershire are better off without you, otherwise they will end up with random decision being made for them!”

“you should have done your research on him first. Dr Brian May has worked hard to get where he is today unlike you Mr Parsons sitting at your desk pushing a pen all day you low life politician.”

“Your decision to write this vindictive article has, I hope, cost you a great deal of support. A less blinkered attitude is a quality expected from public figures. You do yourself a disservice.”

“well now cllr Parsons, I suggest if you want to waste your time attacking Dr. Brian May, C.B.E. you should have done your research on him first, you know nothing about this kind, caring, humble man, who cares about all animals welfare, he may have money, but he has worked damned hard to be where he is today, and unlike many people in politics, HE REALLY DOES CARE! and actually means what he says, so think about an apology to this wonderful caring human being who evidently you know nothing about!”

“There is no place for barbaric acts towards animals.
Having animals ripped apart by a pack of dogs is vile and inhuman.
Shame on you, Councillor Parsons, for supporting this kind of barbarity.”

“Well I guess we all have time on our hands to either write in or reply and rightly so, David Parsons has every right to make a comment as do those who have replied, I would add that Liecestershire is known the world over for it's hunting traditions and I find it very hyporcitical for a reader to say that they like hunting scenes on plates, I am opposed to dog fighting and of course it is banned but I would never buy a plate or anything that had pictures of it in them.”

“Mr. Parsons' childish and erroneous missive serves only to highlight his self-serving attitude and lack of cognition.
He further embarrasses himself by clearly illustrating he knows nothing of Dr. May's work in this area and, rather than undertake any kind of research himself, opts for nothing more than ignorance and pomposity.
Additionally, Mr. Parsons proffers no positivity to counter-balance his infantile swipes.
If this is any indication of how Mr. Parsons conducts his affairs, he has clearly shown himself to be unfit for any public office or position of responsibility.”
