Hunting's here to stay – get used to it
Elizabeth Allison suggests there is too much publicity given to the hunts and is effectively suggesting a "hunt article-free" paper (Mailbox, January 8).
As someone who disagrees with virtually everything she opines on, whether it be hunting, animals, vegetarianism and the like, might I suggest an "Elizabeth Allison-free" Mailbox.
Whether she likes hunting or not, it is here to stay – whether in its current form or, preferably, in its original form after the ridiculous Hunting Act is repealed.
Robin Johnson, Leicester.

“Wishful thinking on the part of Robin Johnson and David from Great Easton if they think hunting (killing) with dogs will always be here! It might be a flawed law thanks to a spineless Tony Blair, but this disgusting pastime for the few barbarians in this country is definately on the way out.
Most hunts cannot muster more than a dozen spectators at any meet. Plus most newspapers lied about the supporter turnouts on Boxing day. It's a sad fact that MOST reporters on smallish papers never even bother to turn out on Boxing day to get their facts straight - preferring to take the word of the hunt spokesman afterwards - ha ha!!
Hunting with dogs is banned, get used to it!
It won't be too long before a new government makes the changes needed to put a full stop to cruelly killing an animal with dogs - mark my words!”

“The hunting act will never be repealed.
The mass majority of people in this country are not that callous.”

“And another point, there are many who live in the countryside opposed to blood sports, It is not just a townie/county issue”

“J.R. Desford, thanks for calling it/them sports. A while ago posters on this subject asked fox hunting especially not to be called that, preferring "recreational pursuit". Was that you David?
Either way and you know what is coming: what kind of people make a sport out of........ oh you have heard it all before”

“The fact of the matter is it was right and lawful, if not why make a new law to outlaw it?!!”

“Take no notice Elizabeth - a LOT of people agree with you.
I sincerely hope that the law will not be repealed - just because people have done something for a long time it doesn't make it right.”

“But Robin, you have in previous missives declared a dislike, indeed fear, of dogs... presumably a pack of hounds hurtling in your direction would scare the living c**p out of you? Maybe you were a fox in a a previous existence??”

“Ms. Allison complains about "too much publicity" given to fox hunting until that is she writes about and expects to get her missive printed!!
As I have predicted on umpteen previous occasions this is a subject that will not simply go away as the antis would like.”
