Icy conditions blamed as vehicles come off the roads
Icy roads have been blamed for a spate of minor collisions.
In Melton, police were called to 11 accidents in three hours on Tuesday. Calls started at 7pm with a single vehicle collision at Great Dalby, followed by reports of cars leaving the road on the B676 at Garthorpe, Buckminster and Wyfordby. A car came off the A607 at Kirby Bellars and there were incidents at Six Hills, Potter Hill, on the A606, and Upper Broughton where a car went into a ditch.
There were accidents in Saxby Road and Scalford Road, in Melton.
In Hinckley Road, Barwell, three people were hurt when a people carrier and a car collided on a bend covered with black ice, at about 8.10pm on Tuesday. Nearby resident John Simpson helped two women out of the people carrier, which ended up on its side. The car driver and women were treated by a passing paramedic.
Early yesterday the fire service was called to a collision involving a minibus in Coventry Road, Sharnford.
No-one was trapped.
In Loughborough, a motorist was injured when his car slid on ice and crashed into a telegraph pole.
The accident was in Beacon Road, Loughborough, at 5.55am yesterday.
