Birstall: Birstall Methodist Church invites anyone to go to its Christmas Sing and Peace Light Service on Wednesday, December 16, at 7pm. The Riverside School Choir will be taking part in this service with new Christmas songs and the old favourite Christmas carols. A retiring collection will be made for Christian Aid.

Blaby: Townswomen's Guild members were entertained by Phillip Shreeve, a popular speaker, on his fourth visit. Mr Shreeve raises funds, with his talks, for Rainbows hospice for children, in Loughborough.

His slide show was of "England, in summer and early autumn" and featured a programme of photographs, with a musical accompaniment.

Evington: St Denys' Men's Forum is holding a charity bring and buy sale in St Denys' Church, on Saturday, from 10am to midday. There will be cakes, produce and a book stall. Admission is £1 at the door, to include coffee and mince pies.

Humberstone: Laburnum Road Community Church will hold a Christmas all-age worship service, including the nativity, at 5pm on Sunday , followed by tea.

Hathern: A Christmas tree festival will be held at Hathern Parish Church from today to Sunday, at midday to 5.30pm. On Sunday, there is a Songs of Christmas Praise at 7.30pm.
