Asfordby Aces opened up a three-point lead at the top of the City & County Girls Under-14 Division table with a hard-fought 7-2 victory over Humberstone Rangers.

Humberstone attacked first but Sophie Pickering fought off the move with some strong defending.

Aces striker Jade Pereira opened the scoring in the fourth minute, dodging to the left of the advancing keeper and guiding the ball into the net from a narrow angle.

Pereira made it 2-0 three minutes later, this time lifting the ball over the stranded keeper.

Shortly afterwards, Pereira's strike partner Rachel Burton won the ball in the Rangers area with a powerful challenge, then passed to Sophie Ellerton, who slipped past the defenders but her shot was blocked by the keeper.

Humberstone managed to break out of their half and relieve the pressure in the 15th minute with a shot at goal, but the Aces countered immediately with winger Paige Gunn breaking down the right and guiding a great through ball into the path of Pereira who scored her hat-trick.

The Aces piled on further pressure with quick, accurate passing to feet stretching Rangers in all parts of the field.

In defence Nailah Master, Sarah Dannaher, Nikita Solanki, Pickering and Jenny Alcott played with good support and understanding catching Rangers offside on a number of occasions and linking up well with midfielders Ellerton, Gunn, Olivia Taylor and Charlotte Broad.

In the 26th minute Rangers made it 3-1 with Ace's keeper Heidi Millin blocking a superb shot only to see the quick-acting Humbertone attack drive the rebound past her into the net.

Broad made it 4-1 in the closing minutes of the half by looping the ball skilfully over the keeper.

The opening period of the second half tested the fitness of both teams with end-to-end football dragging players all over the pitch.

First, Gunn broke through the defence shooting just wide of the left post.

Then Rangers countered with a quick, direct break through the middle of the Aces' defence, shooting just wide of the right post.

Next, Alcott had a superb low shot gathered cleanly by the Rangers' keeper.

Neither team gained clear control until midway through the half when the Aces stepped up into another gear.

Lucy Brewer came on to provide much needed reinforcement. Pereira shot wide of the right post and Broad hit the cross bar.

Rangers countered again with a quick break deep into the Aces' defence but the speedy Dannaher blocked the move brilliantly.

With 10 minutes remaining, Gunn raced onto a fine through ball from Master and blasted the ball past the keeper to make it 5-1.

Gunn scored again two minutes later, guiding her shot over the keeper and inside the right post.

Humberstone clawed back a second goal following a goalmouth scramble.

Brewer blocked and cleared two further Rangers' attacks and the hard-working Ellerton was unlucky not to score.

In the closing minutes, the talented Pereira again came to the fore with a brilliant free-kick from just outside the area which she swerved directly into the top corner to close out the match.

Master was the player of the match for Aces.
