An armed raider who terrorised a householder deserved his severe sentence, appeal judges have ruled.

Mbonisi Sikhobotho (23) was jailed for eight years at Leicester Crown Court in September, after admitting robbery.

The victim was in his flat in Western Road, Leicester, when Sikhobotho and an accomplice stormed in, demanding cash and the contents of his safe.

Both were hooded and armed, London's Appeal Court heard.

One of the intruders bore an extendable police baton, while the other carried a seven-inch kitchen knife which was used to threaten the victim.

Although he bravely refused to hand over his belongings, he was repeatedly threatened by the duo, and finally forced to give up cash and open his safe.

Sikhobotho, of Jarrom Street, Leicester, challenged his sentence, with claims it took insufficient account of his guilty plea, youth, and "relatively light" criminal record.

However, Mr Justice Field, sitting with Lord Justice Rix and Mr Justice Grigson, dismissed the appeal, saying he could "see nothing wrong" with the eight-year sentence.
