James Benning set for Leicestershire Foxes debut against Middlesex
Leicestershire Foxes will travel to Lord's tomorrow no doubt heartened by saving the Championship game against Derbyshire at Grace Road yesterday.
And they will also include a fresh face in the squad to face Middlesex Panthers in the NatWest Pro40 with James Benning having joined the Foxes from Surrey.
Initially that is a loan deal through to the end of the season, although the right-hander has also agreed a deal for next summer with County.
Benning, who also bowls medium pace, will help to fill the gap left by Jim Allenby, who is now with Glamorgan.
And it will hopefully enable Leicestershire to field a considerably stronger side than the one which was hammered by Warwickshire Bears in the Pro40 at Edgbaston last week.
The 26-year-old averages a useful 35 in the one-day game in which he also hit three centuries during his spell at Surrey.
Leicestershire chief executive David Smith said: "We are very mindful of the fact that the 2010 cricket season contains 16 Twenty20 games and a dozen 40 or 50-over games.
"James's record in both forms of the game is good. He has played 127 one-day games with three one-day hundreds and a top score of 189 not out.
"He also offers us a good bowling option in both four-day and one-day cricket."
Skipper Boeta Dippenaar will return to the side having missed the Warwickshire game with a back injury, while Chris Thompson is also included in the squad.
Seamer Harry Gurney, who missed the Championship draw with Derbyshire, returns to the squad while the Foxes have the option of playing both spinners, Claude Henderson and Jigar Naik.
The next eight days will make or break the Foxes' Pro40 season. With just a point from their first two games, Leicestershire follow the trip to London with back-to-back home matches.
Kent pay a visit for a floodlit tie on Tuesday evening with Lancashire due to follow them a week tomorrow.
