Leicester: Seckou Keita, known as the Jimmy Hendrix of the kora – a 21-stringed 'guitar' from West Africa – is to bring his quintet with its infectious foot-tapping music to the Peepul Centre, on Tuesday, October 13.

The kora is usually accompanied by the traditional djembe drum, but the quintet includes a violinist, guitarist and singer allowing for a range of musical styles including jazz, classical, Flamenco, with sometimes hints of rock and reggae, but all reflecting a great enthusiasm for the joyful rhythms of West Africa.

The concert at the Peepul Centre on October 13 will come near the end of a month-long UK tour by the quintet.

It will be their last UK tour until their next album due out in late 2011.

For tickets for the show at the Peepul Centre, in Orchaerdson Avenue, call 0116 261 6000.
