A jobless man tried to obtain a mortgage by falsely claiming he was a £160,000-a-year legal professional.

James George Tomkins (61) pleaded guilty to fraud at Leicester Crown Court, by making a false representation in a mortgage application to Fresh Start Home Loans Ltd, by falsely representing he was a corporate legal officer, on June 17, 2009.

Tomkins, of Forest Road, Coalville, also admitted possession of forged documents, for use in fraud.

The documents purported to show he was in a senior position with various international companies, when he was actually an undischarged bankrupt in receipt of state benefits, on January 12, 2011.
