“Graham_LE8... I think one of the issues that have killed the like of Comet is that you cannot take stuff back. Most large goods are covered by the manufacturer only. I found this out when I had a washing machine breakdown very soon after I bought it. Comet just gave me the contact number for the manufacturers warranty department who would deal with it. With service like that whats the point of going to a shop. I may as well have bought it on-line.”

“@ davidh11; "The retail world is changing, no place for this type of store any longer. What do evolutionists say "adopt or die"...

I can see merit in the idea, but before we all rush to consign retail shopping to the history books, remember it's all very well sussing out an item in a shop, then getting it cheaper 'on the net', until you have to take it back, of course...”

The only thing i seem to recall when i went into Comet is do you want an extended warranty with that? Not a cheap one either?

Perhaps they could get jobs in factories now? I forgot we don't have any factories left in Leicester”

“According to David Cameron & George Osborne the private sector is providing job opportunities for redundant public sector workers. This however is the reality........the private sector is in crisis.”

“There's no good time to lose a job - however, losing your job in the run up to Christmas seems particularly hard. I hope the Directors are able to find some way of protecting the livelihoods of their staff.”

“Happy memories as a teenager in the 1970s getting a Grandstand TV games console from the Cobden street depot and a Sony VHF radio that in those days picked up the police as well as Radio Leicester till they moved their frequency off the broadcast band

And buying the wife her first mobile phone from them in 1994 yep no free phones back then
£300 for a Sony "Mars bar" analogue , and you still had to pay £20 a month for the Cellnet contract with calls on top and no texts as they hadnt been thought of oh and the only other provider was Vodafone,

No Orange T mobile etc etc”
