Woman stole a Royal British Legion poppy appeal box 'for a joke'
A woman stole a Royal British Legion poppy appeal box for a joke, a court heard.
Karen Collins, 21, took the collection box containing £50 from Station View surgery, in Hinckley, then panicked and dumped it in a public toilet, Hinckley magistrates were told.
Collins, of Langham Close, Hinckley, pleaded guilty to stealing the box on October 29, and admitted failing to attend court on February 5. Chris Black, defending, said his client regretted her actions. She was given a 12-month community order with a six-month drug rehab requirement.
