ALTON TOWERS: The theme park has revealed details of its new £18 million rollercoaster.

Codenamed Secret Weapon 7, the new ride will open to the public on March 16, 2013. While the details of the ride are still a secret, Alton Towers has revealed that the highest drop will be 30m and the maximum speed will be 85km an hour.

However, officials have yet to reveal what will make the ride a "world's first".

In the meantime, the Staffordshire theme park is preparing visitors for the experience with a new attraction at its annual Halloween-themed event.

The annual Scarefest features The Sanctuary, which invites guests to book an appointment at a recently reopened facility for a refreshing check-up – but a terrifying twist awaits.

Katherine Duckworth, from Alton Towers, says: "Details of the new ride coming to the theme park in 2013 are still a closely guarded secret but we know that people are hugely excited about its arrival and want a hint of what is to come. The Sanctuary is set to make Scarefest more terrifying than ever, and give our guests the chance to experience a preview of our new ride before it opens to the public in March."

Scarefest 2012 runs from October 19-31.

“Yes F007e, they are called advertorials and they are pretty standard in this day and age in the press / public relations world. It's not thinly disguised as anything it is simply what it is.”

“There obviously isnt much local news about today then. On a positive note people might want to visit the park and try it out.”

“Is this an advert thinly disguised as a 'news' story?”
