Leicester 1 Brighton 0: Foxes remain at summit
Leicester held on to top spot in the npower Championship but they were made to work for a narrow 1-0 win against Brighton.
Andy King stabbed home the only goal of the game in the 10th minute, but they had goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to thank for preserving the points as he denied Ashley Barnes from the penalty spot.
Leicester, who had moved to the summit on goal difference following a 1-1 draw at Birmingham on Saturday, named an unchanged starting line-up.
Brighton, who went into the game on the back of a four-match winless run, made two changes from the side beaten at home by Middlesbrough last weekend.

Will Buckley replaced David Lopez and Gary Dicker came in for Dean Hammond.
Leicester started brightly, with Martyn Waghorn's skidding 30-yard free-kick forcing goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak into an early save.
The Foxes took the lead after a spell of early pressure. Some fine work from David Nugent down the left saw him beat Liam Bridcutt and cut inside before laying the ball to King.
King's initial shot was blocked by Kuszczak but the ball rebounded kindly to him and the midfielder stabbed home from close in.
The home side were rampant and almost added a second shortly afterwards when Ritchie De Laet broke away and crossed into the path of Waghorn but he could not keep his shot down.
Brighton responded through a Bridcutt free-kick which was pushed wide by Schmeichel, with Barnes heading over from the resulting corner.
But Leicester were quickly back on the attack as Anthony Knockaert neatly controlled a pass from Waghorn and drove in a shot which was palmed away by the keeper.
The Seagulls, who had scored just one goal in their previous four matches, were dominating possession as the first half drew to a close but struggled for an end product as Buckley's volley flew well wide.
Kuszczak pulled off a superb save to keep out Nugent's curling effort at the start of the second half, but from the quick break, Brighton were awarded a penalty.
Zak Whitbread was adjudged to have fouled Buckley, but Brighton's profligacy continued as Barnes' penalty was saved low by Schmeichel.
De Laet left the action through injury shortly afterwards with Liam Moore coming on, while Nugent made way for Jamie Vardy moments later.
And after Vardy had glanced a header wide from Lloyd Dyer's cross, Foxes manager Nigel Pearson made his third change, with Ben Marshall replacing Waghorn.
Craig Mackail-Smith, who had been quiet, was inches away from connecting with a cross from Bruno Saltor, while at the other end Marshall had Kuszczak scrambling to keep out a low drive.
Barnes had the chance to make amends for his penalty miss at the death but he fired wide and the Foxes held on.

“Outfoxedya, I am not summarising one performance sorry for confusion,
In general I am saying we seem to spend more time up front attacking nowadays,
which in itself prevents the defence from conceding,
When were are level or only 1 goal up it's always the best option, and it's good that whilst there are still minutes on the clock we try to extend our lead.
In previous seasons I've seen us either settle for a draw, or try to play keep ball when we are 1 goal up with time left and it only takes one mistake to undo the lead, and in some cases ruin the swagger and confidence - and in those days we usually got hit twice.
At least now not many teams are getting to create against us, they are having to hit us on the break. Schmeicels save was great, though he said in his interview that he decided where he was going before it was struck and there is no trick to it, it's mostly luck. (I know a lot of it is to do with timing).
My point was though, by constantly attacking teams and finding a way through we force them to defend deep, meaning a break is the best they can hope for. Over all.
Every now and then we will have the wrong system or a player with an off day and it'll go wrong, but for now it's going right.
Earlier in the season - we played the same, but we didn't get the goals that mattered, and other teams were good on the break, now we've settled in, as long as we score early it's working.
1 nil up - get at em.. 2 nil up with time on the clock - still get at em.
only when you get to the last few minutes or players get tired do you need men behind it, and bang it to the corners, out for throws or play keep ball.
And that's what we are doing. We just need to clear up the stray passes, and get some confidence into Waggy and we are sorted. I don't agree we need a loan striker,
we have players out on loan who have goals in them. We have 3 Strikers who can make the bench every week who on their day are a handful.
Regarding Madrid the word "Reportedly" in most stories allows the press a bit of freedom to speculate. Unless of course someone has been directly quoted. If so I've missed that.”

Waggy is not to bad at set piece but he is not very good with ball at feet in the six yard box. I agree with most and he should be moved on or out on loan. We seem to be getting good ball from out wide now so would Futacs be ok in the box as he is as tall as Blackpool tower?
Jamie Vardy in my books will start bashing them in soon, he is a regular dynamo just runs till he drops. He to is getting into the right positions to score. So have a bit of patience and the goals will come I'm sure.
I think we will see Palace of alright, I'm predicting 3-1 as surely Pearson will be giving the strikers plenty of practice to get the ball past Kasper on the training paddock. But being dead serious, if we can't slot our chances in the onion bag. We will make it to hard for ourselves to reach the promised land.”

“Its a shame as Beckford would fit well into our stlye of play if he worked harder.
We need a finisher to play off Nugent. Vardy is gettin better but when either them are out we may struggle.
Futacs was bought I think as a long ball option when struggling. He may not suit our normal style of play now. Waggy works hard, just lost his scoring boots.
Could change, strikers can be funny like that. He could get 3 next game.”

“I've defended Vardy on here against criticism and will continue to do so. Because his record is good and will only get better.
It is more difficult to defend Waggy because he has been given opportunities and is still yet to take any of them. All players have bad games or have a poor run of form. But in Waggy's case he's yet to really get started and he's blessed with a team around him who are making it easier for him to score that at any time in his Foxes career.
Yes Vardy has missed some sitters but that hasn't stopped him coming back for more - his head has never dropped and he fights for everything. He also improves the more he plays. There are goals in him.
Chappy has got this right - the longer we keep teams defending the less likely we are to concede. Our attack is therefore doing everything right - the only thing missing is some better finishing.
But Waggy doesn't seem to have that same confidence and desire - and fans are quick to spot this. Sometimes you just have to accept that a player is 'not a good fit'.”

“Chappy you must have been at a different game to what I was last night as in my eyes after a bright 15-20 opening minuets we seemed to lose the plot (for the first time this season) and our defense WAS worked hard resulting in conceding a second half penalty giving Schmeichel a chance to show why Real Madrid are supposedly after him (yeah right) with a superb save!
Too many loose passes for my liking and Knockaert (whilst still good) wasn't as effective as usual (hopefully a one off?) but like I said earlier, if this had been last season we'd have conceded ether a late equaliser or lost the match altogether so lessons seemed to have been learnt and I'm getting more convinced, match by match, that this really will be our season.
Great sense of humour regarding Waggy guys specially the 'would have converted had he been playing at Welford Rd...' jibe. Just goes to show how good sitting on top of the league makes us ALL feel when we can laugh and joke rather than snipe and moan at each other :0)
And...
With this new found sense of harmony we're now feeling it seems that we are all mostly in agreement that Waghorns time is up here at Leicester and should be sold ASAP? With that in mind, maybe we could tempt Steve Bruce at Hull to make a bid for our 'executive box to executive box' danger man seeing as he rated him so highly as to rip us off with a multi million pound price tag in the first place when at Sunderland?
Yeah gone all quiet now ain't ya Steve?...
Steve??......
STEVE??????......... Guess not then?
Bring on Palace this Saturday, drop Waghorn and lets make it 7 home wins on the trot!
COYB!!!!!”

“Yeah I agree with the mighty Dobby on this one.
Nugent had a few dodgy games at the start of this season, and pretty much cost us the game away at Blackburn - and I don't think that it's a problem to say that.
I just don't like it when people continually sl*g off the same player over and over again, and magnify each and every mistake they make. But as Waggy seems to have missed two easy chances in the last two games - you can't just ignore it.
I still like Waggy as a player (as I'm sure do a lot of us) and think he's got a chance to come good at this level.
But perhaps somebody else (Schlupp/Footacks) deserves the chance to be the main back-up to Nugent/Vardy… I think that's all that is being said here.”

“foxeerod criticism when its warrented and praise when its due. Thats the way of the world. Its as it should be and always will be. Nugent just had the one game when he seemed to want to spend it pulling shirts diving and generally looking annoying. Anyone would not like that in any player whoever they were. Waggy is snatching and trying too hard ala Vardy. Its not his play that some folk dont like just his attitude. Yes great win yet a.. clenching on account of missed chances but who cares. We do need a strike partner on loan for Nugent though until some of these guys can get up to the mark. Hence NP s present search.”

“a few weeks ago , despite him being top scorer the previous season, people were criticizing david nugent for lack of goals and his attitude , then he got a quick 5 goals including a hat trick and then the same people who were slamming him on here , were all hunky dory with him again.
weve had people slamming into jamie vardy , despite the fact hes played well and scored some goals.
now its the turn of waggy to get the " treatment", despite the fact hes still relatively young at 22 years old .
come on , give the lad a chance , hes started TWO championship games and come on as a sub in 4 others , he hit the post against wolves, missed a sitter against brum, and another against brighton last night , to me this just proves one thing .... hes getting in the right positions.
even the great strikers like gary lineker had little spells ,where they couldnt put the ball in a trawlermans net, but that doesnt worry a striker, because they know if they keep taking up their correct position , a lucky goal will come , followed by a busload.
i personally think waggy will never be a prolific scorer at this level, even in his division one season he only got 12 goals, but NP seems to like him, and even if hes a bit part player,we should support him when used and give him a chance .
two starts ....tut tut to you moanies .
any way with king, marshal , knockaert and dyer weighing in with goals from the midfield , who needs a 20 goals a season striker?
welll done last night lads , we slaughtered them 1-0 and well done kasper for saving that penalty , because of that save i luckily got my 1-1 prediction wrong.
and im not bothered that cardiff sneaked a win to get level on points , im just happy looking at the 6 point gap to leeds in 7th ,though it could be down to 5 if blackburn win tonight.
up the mighty blue foxes”

“Very true Chappy. Defending and attacking from the front.
NP could try playing just Nugent with Knockers just behind him. The lad has an eye for goal.”
