Leicester 2 Burnley 1: City fightback helps to ease pressure
Goals from David Nugent and Jamie Vardy gave Leicester City victory over Burnley – but it was a nervy night for City fans.
City could bemoan their luck in previous away defeats that had left them languishing towards the bottom of the table, but there was an element of good fortune about City's victory.

Nugent's scuffed volley two minutes after the break restored parity after Dean Marney had given the Clarets a 10th minute lead as City produced a poor first-half display.
The winner, too – from Vardy in the 57th minute – had a touch of fortune, the ball taking a wicked deflection which wrong-footed Burnley keeper Lee Grant.

At the other end, Kasper Schmeichel produced an excellent save right at the death to deny Sam Vokes.
The victory saw City climb nine places to a much more respectable 10th, just two points short of the play-off positions.
Defeat would have seen the pressure mount on manager Nigel Pearson after City's indifferent start to the campaign and it looked bleak for City at half time as the hosts struggled to get going against a dogged defensive effort from Eddie Howe's side.
Defensive lapses had contributed greatly to City's position in the table and another error gave Burnley the lead when Sean St Ledger got too tight to Martin Paterson, who turned the defender before squaring the ball for Marney to score.
City lacked the cutting edge to force their way back into the game and the boos rang around the stadium at half-time.
The mood brightened after the break as Nugent scored his first goal since April to get City back on terms, while Vardy's second goal left the Clarets shell-shocked.
City now have some breathing space when they take on in-form Hull City on Sunday.
Pearson yesterday made an addition to his playing staff, signing up his son James.
The teenager, who has featured for City in development games this season, has signed a one-year professional contract, but is not expected to feature in the first team.

“Getting the team in the playoff positions for the next few weeks would take the pressure off everyone, but that's easier said than done. It all comes back to that 'consistency' word again.
C'mon Nigel please prove me wrong.”

“some people on here have always suggested nigel pearson is aloof , big headed, hard to get on with , needs taking down a peg or two, etc etc .
a lot of these comments , you could attribute to brian clough. and before people start saying he proved that he had something to be big headed about, this is true ..... but he was also brash and big headed when he first set out in management at hartlepool so lets give NP a chance ... after all , who knows what might happen”

“Can't believe Bruno is heading down under to play, should be good to watch the big fella again...”

“I have a lot of respect for Bruno, especially putting his hands in his pockets to help his former club out but I don't think his goal scoring record was what we were/are looking for.
Things looking more promising for Nugent and Vardy. No need to issue the strikers with banjos on a day trip to a dairy farm just yet!”

“Dobbo... The pharmaceutical company I work for distribute some of the most potent class 2 drugs on the market...but not even those would dupe any rational person to believe we'll achieve automatic promotion whilst we're shipping silly Sunday park football goals...
& yes, the Tigers are playing Sunday, we're taking them on at the KP...(sorry mate...couldn't resist) :)”

“Maybe Kryton from Red Dwarf can explain it better than myself.
Kryton: There are 2 reasons why won't get promoted this year Sir.
ONE: We are a very inconsistent side.
TWO: We are a very inconsistent side.
Nigel: You said the same thing twice!
Kryton: I know Sir, but I thought it was so important that I should repeat it!”

“Happy youd have to be on some seriously good drug to think that will happen. It may well be back to the non existant drawing board tomorrow. Hope not but likely.”
