Leicester City and England legend Gary Lineker has made the top 20 of a new poll to find the greatest footballer of all time.

Lineker, who is rated at No.16 in the survey, scored 48 goals in 80 England appearances and enjoyed domestic and European success with City, Barcelona, Everton and Tottenham.

Pele topped the poll with George Best second and David Beckham in third spot.

Beckham's free-kick in a 2001 World Cup qualifier against Greece was voted the greatest goal.

Nick McBoyle, managing director of www.sportingfix.com, the online fixtures service which polled 3,000 football fans, said: ''It was a surprise to see Beckham rated above the likes of Diego Maradona, Bobby Moore and Bobby Charlton."
