Leicester City's under-18s are relishing the prospect of booking a place in the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday night if they can overcome Hull City, academy director Jon Rudkin said.

City face the Tigers at North Ferriby United's ground in the fifth round hoping to book a home tie against either Histon, Liverpool or Leeds  in the last eight.

City have seen off Blackburn Rovers, last year's runners-up, and Peterborough United so far in the competition and Rudkin said the cup was great experience for the young players as they look to progress into Nigel Pearson's first team.

"We did ever so well to beat Blackburn at Ewood Park and then performed excellently to knock out Peterborough, who had seen off a strong Aston Villa side in the previous round," said Rudkin.

"Now we are up against Hull and it will be another tough tie, but one we are all looking forward to.

"Hull are a good team and are doing well in their respective youth league so it will be a difficult challenge, but our lads have been performing well at under-18 and under-21level.

"It is an important part of their development. Ultimately, they want to playing in the FA Cup in our first team. What they taste on Wednesday night will hopefully hold them in good stead for the future if they make it into the first team."

Harry Panayiotou, Michael Cain and Joe Dodoo will lead City's attack and Rudkin said they will gain invaluable experience.

"It will be good for them to play at a non-league ground because in future years they could face a non-league side in the FA Cup in our first team," he said.

"It is a different environment and we will prepare like the first team by going up and staying in a hotel and getting all our build-up right.

"It is a great opportunity for them to play in the fifth round of this competition."

Kick-off is 7pm.

“Good luck to you guys, any performance from you will almost certainly be better than what the first team provided us with last night.”

“There are NO non-league teams left in the F.A.Cup ghost of 66pah, so he's obviously referring to future seasons. So cheap shot. I'm sorry we lost last night, sorry we have no decent strikers apart from Nugent and Wood, but glad we have nothing left to play for but promotion. Nigel has a whole week to sort it out.”
