Captain Wes Morgan is convinced that Leicester City can retain their automatic promotion spot until the end of the season.

City moved into the top two of the Championship following their 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the King Power Stadium eight days ago.

Boro could have also moved into the top two with a win, and Morgan said it was a vital victory for City because of what was at stake.

"It was a massive win for us," he said. "We went into the game knowing what was at stake.

"Both sides were going for that second position and I think we just wanted it that bit more.

"That showed in the way we celebrated after the game.

"We kept another clean sheet, and, the more clean sheets we keep, the more likely we are to win the game.

"If we carry on keeping clean sheets, we know we have good-enough players to get goals. That shows in our goal difference.

"If we keep doing our jobs, I am sure we will be up there at the end of the season."

David Nugent scored the winner with a stunning strike in the 71st minute, while goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel produced a wonderful penalty save at the death to ensure City picked up their fourth consecutive league win, and fifth in all competitions.

"I am not surprised at the quality of David Nugent's goal because he has that in his locker all day long," said Morgan.

"In a tight game, you need someone who can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

"That is what he did. I was buzzing for him.

"He works so hard for the team and he causes the opposition defenders problems through the game. He got his reward for that.

"He has had a great season so far and, hopefully, it will continue."

Morgan added: "I am always quietly confident with Kasper Schmeichel.

"He gives you that quiet assurance that he can pull off saves like that.

"We didn't think Middlesbrough deserved a point against us, and that gave us a deserved win."
