Leicester City have chance to reach Wembley, says Nigel Pearson
Nigel Pearson believes Leicester City have a fantastic opportunity of a day out at Wembley in the FA Cup.
City will face the Blues of either Chelsea or Birmingham City away in the quarter-finals on the weekend of Saturday, March 17 with a place in a Wembley semi-final at stake.
Pearson thinks that this year's competition is anyone's to win because many of the game's giants sides have already bowed out.
City beat Norwich City at Carrow Road in the quarter-finals en route to the 1963 final – which they lost to Manchester United – courtesy of goals from Mike Stringfellow and David Gibson.
Pearson hopes it is a good omen for his current City side after their 2-1 success at the same ground on Saturday.
"That was the year I was born," said Pearson, after goals from Sean St Ledger and David Nugent earned City their win against the Canaries.
"I think when you get to the latter stages people do start hoping and dreaming that you can be successful in cup competitions. I have been fortunate to have played in cup finals.
"There are a number of big sides no longer in the competition, but we have to take it one step at a time."
City Supporters Club chairman Cliff Ginnetta said: "I would have fancied a home tie, but it's a good draw. If we play like we did on Saturday, I think we could beat either of them."
A clash with Chelsea would give the Blue Army a glamour tie.
If Birmingham win the replay, they will have two clashes in a week with City because they are at the King Power Stadium for a Championship game on the Tuesday before quarter-finals weekend.
Pearson added: "This is still a very important competition.
"I think the FA Cup, unfortunately, seems to have been diminished in how people perceive it.
"But that is certainly not the case for me, and I don't think for the fans either.
"I think that is born out of the pressures of success with European football, for the bigger Premier League clubs. But it is still a very prestigious competition and we will be looking to progress as far as we can in it."
Pearson confirmed that defender Sol Bamba has now returned to the club after the African Cup of Nations.
Bamba will be in contention for Thursday's trip to face Derby County, but John Pantsil has been given extended leave because of a family bereavement.

“Cptrain - Why do you resent Elliotts Wages? Why do you have to make a point and Sully the reputation of a player who never gave anything other than commitment to the team from the day he arrived to the day he retired? I have sat within a few seats of him on a number of occasions at our home games, (as have many others) which says to me that he still shows an interest in the club. Granted the Birches tongue in cheek comment was funny, but he made no more than he deserved in that climate, and probably the same as any other club would have paid him.
We've had other players since who purportedly earned the same.
Dabizas, Keown, Sinclair, Campbell, Dublin, Brian Deane, Les Ferdinand, Ian Walker, Gillespie, , Sturridge, who all slipped under your radar and one in particular who would be a better recipient of your criticism - I refer to one Dennis Wise.”

“Am getting some real pelters on this site - Elliot was brilliant for us no doubt - and he retired prematurely due to knee problems - he made a mint out of us though - was on a long term contract at £30k a week. Was really funny when Birchy announced his retirement and said Eliott wasn't at the ground as he had gone to London to buy Harrods.”

“elliott was a god in my eyes , the two goals he scored at wembley against tranmere were superb , great memories of that day . i remember walking through kings cross and a random gooner started calling me leicester scum, i just replied, have arsenal got a game today ? on another note CHAPPY , how come youve changed your name mate, were you reported or just struggling to log in ? ive had a mare trying to log in for the last few days , had to get the missus and my son to sort it .”

“Cptrain, we'll have to agree to disagree mate, Elliott was playing the ball, but changed his mind to avoid giving a penalty, hardly clumsy.. Prior had his back to it when it flew in and was turning. If Elliott had clattered the man then I would have said it was clumsy.
If you think Elliott was Clumsy and a liability in the side in general I ask you these questions?
How long after Elliott got his first start for City was it before we conceded a goal by a header in a league match? (So you can work it out, Warren Barton was the First to Score a header against us with Elliott on the pitch after we signed him)
How many goals did Elliott Score, how many match winners? How many Assists?
How many goal line clearances?
How many clean sheet matches did he play in?
How many bookings? How many Sendings off?
He was tried twice by TV, once was fair, but the one on Michael Owen was appealed, and lost, even though Michael Owen said is was his own fault as he slid for the ball, he caught Elliotts Arm, which wasn't raised. The FA upheld the Linesman's decision.
Under Peter Taylor - The first week in December, only one team had a better defence than Arsenal - I'll give you a clue - it was us.
Elliott, Walsh, Prior, Kaamark were often quoted by Sky as the Best Back four apart from Arsenal.
Walsh and Elliott had a better goal return between them than the front pairings of 2 out of 3 of the relegated sides (Forest and Sunderland) in 1997 - and Middlesborough only escaped this stat because Ravanelli was League top Scorer that season despite them going down.
Elliott and Walsh combined twice to Equalise against Arsenal in the "Premier Leagues Greatest Game" the 3 all draw at Filbo.
Elliott got both goals against Tranmere at Wembley in the League Cup Final
So I can see why you think Elliott was a bit of a liability, especially in that Chelsea game.
As I said, we'll agree to disagree.”

“Newark Fox, I have looked at the clip, thanks for that - brings back very painful memories (check out the horrible Wise antics). But I have looked at it again a dozen times and Eliott comes across the chappy and if had not done so, the diver would have been booked - it was Eliott's clumsiness that created the mayhem - he should not have come across - Pryor had the guy covered.”

“Dorset Fox, You are bang on, the ball is played over Izzet to Vialli on the right of the box who tees up a high ball which Johnsen runs onto with his Chest, Elliott's is in position where the ball (and doesn't charge in like a bull in a china shop, so why he'd need a rollocking I don't know), He pulls his leg out with no contact at all (about 2 to 3 feet early), Johnsen Chests it but is blocked by Prior who is turning to face the ball, Johnsen ignores the ball runs across prior and dives, he doesn't make contact with prior at all until he is halfway down, in fact his dive knocks prior off balance NOT the other way around.
Le Beouf takes the penalty afterwards. Andy Gray and Martin Tyler are both saying on the Commentary that Johnsen made a conscious decision to dive, and played to get the decision.
CPTrain - I don't understand how you can accuse Elliott of anything.
Check this.. you can review it to your hearts content.
