David Nugent said Leicester City have an opportunity to "show the world" that they have not given up on reaching the play-offs when they face local rivals Derby County at Pride Park on Thursday night.

The game has been brought forward 48 hours so it can be televised live on Sky Sports.

Nugent is in fantastic goalscoring form, having scored three goals in his last two games, including the winner at Norwich on Saturday which fired City into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

City are 12th in the Championship, nine points from the play-offs, and Nugent admits they cannot afford anymore slip-ups during the final 15 games if they are to close that gap, but added that they are full of confidence after their superb win at Carrow Road.

"Thursday night on Sky, we have a chance to show the world we are a good side and we want to get into the play-offs and show the rest of the Championship we are not lying down yet," he said.

"It was a great win at Norwich when we weren't expected to get a result.

"We seem to do better against the sides above us in the league and then get sloppy against the teams that are below us.

"It is something we have to look at.

"We have to put it right in the league because it will cost us a play-off place if we don't start picking up results quickly."

City now face a trip to either Chelsea or Birmingham City in the quarter-finals on the weekend of March 17-18.

“The last player to come on here gobbing about winning saw us going down in flames. (I think it was Gally). Let the score sheet do the talking. Eriksson had a 4-0 victory over the sheep at home so nothing less than 3 points is acceptable If we are to progress further up the table. So let's hope it's the first of 10 Foxy Rodney.”

“SexytinaX, you can take the boy out of Leicester but not the Leicester out of the boy. Trying to convince a south London female to move to Leicester was beyond my powers of persuasion!!

Mind you the amount of City fans I bump in to down here makes me feel like a Man Utd fan sometimes!!”

    “acullingham
Agree with your post. We are not good enough for the Premier League just yet we would be straight back down. But if for some miracle we did happen to get promoted. Then I would be right behind my Leicester City. But I am not letting my heart rule my head at this point in time. I think if we finish close to the top six. That really is all we deserve, in my way of thinking for not beating the teams lower than us in the table. Also a lot of dodgy refereeing hasn't helped our cause either.”

“the simple fact is ... win 10 games from our last 15 games to total 72 points and that will be enough for the play offs . it doesnt matter if we win the first ten , the last ten , or the middle ten , because any ten will do , nigel pearson knows this , and the players know this, so just relax , chill out and enjoy the ride . im quietly confident that this team wont lose 5 more games this season . all we have to do is turn the draws into wins. and NEWARKFOX the team against derby at home was schmeichel ,peltier, mills, bamba konchesky, abe , fernandes, king , danns, vassell and nugent. subs dyer schlupp howard (used) weale pantsill (unused) 4-0 scorers nugent , vassell, dyer, schlupp . from foxyrod ( also of newark)”

“Agree, take each one as it comes, forget the last one (or learn from it).

Can't remember, but when we beat Derby last time, what starting line up did we put out?”

“Let's get a settled and consistent team first. We are still 3/4 players short of a strong team. We need to plan to get promotion that can survive in the Premiership .
I'll be happy to forgo a top 6 place this year to win the Championship next year.”
