One year on from joining Leicester City, winger Ben Marshall says he is delighted with how his career is progressing and even more excited about what lies ahead.

Since arriving at the King Power Stadium from Stoke in January last year, the 21-year-old has established himself in Nigel Pearson's first-team squad and his impressive performances have led to a call up to the England under-21 squad.

Marshall made his debut for the under-21s in September when he went on off the bench in a European under-21 Championship qualifier against Azerbaijan.

Marshall believes his international recognition was only due to being given the chance to showcase his talent in the City side by manager Nigel Pearson.

"My first year has gone brilliantly," he said. "I have been playing regularly, which is what I needed, and I got an England call-up. I never thought that would happen.

"The reason I got the call-up is because I came here, was playing regularly and doing well. I wouldn't have got that if I had still been at Stoke.

"I have scored some important goals this season and last season. I have chipped in to try to help the team out.

"I am really excited for what is coming as well.

"We have got ourselves into the top two and we have just got to stay there. Hopefully, we can stay there."

Marshall has made 48 appearances for City since his move, scoring eight times, including memorable strikes against Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Stamford Bridge last season.

“When Ben arrived he looked lost out on the wing and my thoughts were, another lightweight.

I went to the Chelsea Cup match and as the game slipped away from us he came on, played a central role and scored an iconic goal and he was off and running as a Leicester hero. He had a great spell.

This season he has not reached the heights of last season (Yet) but remains an integral member of Nigel's trusted squad.

"Clueless" has turned into "mastermind" and we should support his squad as a mark of respect and support. They are not going to all played great all of the time but they have their role to play.

Why not enjoy the situation the lads have got us into and vocally support and encourage all of them in a push for promotion instead of picking on individuals for something to moan about..

THERE IS NOTHING TO MOAN ABOUT execpt the catering!”

“I agree on the loan player comment. We are thin on the ground when you look beyond first team regular players. I hope SSL is approaching at least bench selection. Has anyone heard any latest news on Schlupp?”

“LCFC I dont think anyone is being too hard on him- i am sure we all think he is a talent but he does fade and therefore should he be a regular.”

“I think a lot of you are being a bit hard on Marshall. If anything he suffered from being too impressive initially. People then expected him to keep that form. Dont forget he's only 21, he has a great future ahead of him and i for one hope its with us.”

“For me Marsall has been off the mark for quite some time, and its a position that needs looking at,he must show up well in training because on current form he should be on the bench.UP THE BLUES”

“Let's bear in mind that Ben is still a young man and learning all the time. NP has stuck with him to keep him playing and get some confidence back, but it's not really working too well at the moment. From distance Ben is a threat but overall he has been a bit of a luxury and suffering from lack of form. I would have him on the bench as an impact sub until he shows some improved form. He certainly doesn't look as lively and hungry as he used to, and I agree he fades. Worth playing in a different position, and NP should be experimenting in training regarding this one.”

“Form comes and goes, not long ago Knockout was criticised for trying to be 'too clever'. Marshall's doing fine. We don't score many from range, and he does. And the first line of defence, he does well. He can't run like Dyer but he crosses better. Dyer, Marshall and Knocky bother other managers as they don't know which combination Nigel will go for. I like Marshall especially for the goals he can thump in that Drinkwater and James can't.”

“I hope Nigel brings in one perhaps two quality loan players - we are close to having a team that can get an auto spot this season but pray we dont have another barren spell.Marshall is the one player I am not sure about- Young, of course is talented, has scored 3-4 fantastic goals but for me he fades out the game the game too often.
I am a believer in picking a side based on form and who we are playing but often prefer LL his pace is blistering.

This is one position I would like NP to have a good look at.”

“It has been something of a first year roller coaster ride for Marshall. He hit the ground running in January 2012 and was on fire for the rest of the season with some excellent goals and wing play which brought him international U-21 recognition.

The summer break came at the wrong time for him and he lost some of that zip, perhaps when he saw what skills Knocky was bringing to the table perhaps in the position that he thought he had made his own.

So his form dipped and he has dropped from "on fire" to "satisfactory"

That should not be good enough for him and he should realise that he was brought in for his own talents, not for those he wishes he had. He should be able to whip the ball in from corners and free kicks with deadly accuracy- and he should be our first choice free kick taker anywhere near the box.

If not takeing corners he should be on the edge of the box to hammer back the first half-clearance that comes his way. Yes his support play and defensive dities have been satisfactory and his talents have sometimes been visible, but so far this season the fire has dulled to a glow but not yet embers.

He just needs some draught to rekindle the flames and that comes from confidence and goals and the regular support of the fans who do their best to lift him with the "Ben Marshall" song.

Perhaps he should become a little more selfish and push himself more often into the goalscoring opportunities to really re-ignite the flames.”
