Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric says that up to four new players could be added to the squad in the next few weeks.

The first of them could be Slovenian striker Leon Crncic later today.

But Mandaric says manager Paulo Sousa's transfer business will have to be "sensible" – and that money "will not be thrown away".

City's total debts as of May 31 last year stood at almost £26million, and Mandaric is personally underwriting that debt.

The chairman warned: "We have to be sensible and make sure we don't waste the money."

Sousa's only acquisition so far has been Portugal Under-21 international Miguel Vitor on a season-long loan deal from Benfica, although Crncic's arrival at the Walkers Stadium looks imminent.

Mandaric said: "We are assembling a good team and we still have two, three or maybe four players to come on board during August.

"There is obviously a need for investment in the players and he will get that money.

"The manager is looking for certain players to buy but also players to bring in on loan or who are on frees. We have to make sure we don't waste it. We will not throw it away."

City's targets will be at home and abroad.

Mandaric added: "There are a lot of good players available in this country and overseas, so there is no reason why he (Sousa) is not able to bring in the two or three players he needs."

Crncic arrived at the club this week and has been undergoing a medical. City were hoping to unveil the 20-year-old yesterday but they are awaiting results of a final scan.

Crncic impressed Sousa when he trained with City during their week-long training camp in Slovenia. He also scored a goal in the friendly against his former club, NK Aluminiji. Last season, he was on loan at Italian club Atalanta and is now a free agent.

“This is very good news as signings are highly needed in some positions.

Hopefully Sousa will take a look at Robert Koren on a free transfer, a signing like him would set the roof alight.”
