Manager Paulo Sousa has pledged Leicester City will go on the attack this season after admitting he has been impressed with his strike force.

Sousa said City have plenty of firepower after watching their latest pre-season game, which was abandoned because of floodlight failure at the Don Valley Stadium.

City were leading 2-1 when the lights went out 10 minutes from time, but Sousa said he had seen plenty of encouraging signs from his side as an attacking force.

He was particularly pleased with his strikers and DJ Campbell received a standing ovation from the small City following when he left the field after an hour.

Campbell scored a stunning second goal, his third in three games, to add to Paul Gallagher's opener, and he looked sharp throughout.

There were also unconfirmed reports last night that Sousa had offered Steve Howard a new contract in a bid to ward off the attentions of Huddersfield Town, who have bid £300,000 for the 34-year-old.

"I am pleased for a striker to score goals," Sousa said of Campbell. "It is important that he gets confidence and that comes from scoring goals.

"We can see in training and in the games that he is enjoying himself and is looking for goals.

"But all the strikers are looking bright and with a bit more luck could have scored.

"Steve Howard, Paul Gallagher, Andy King and Lloyd Dyer all had chances.

"We have a lot of options and it is something we want to work on.

"So far we have worked for 10 days. The main thing for me is to give the players some minutes and I have seen some good things already. We want to see good things from the start to the end, and a team that looks strong for 90 minutes.

"I am happy to see improvements already in some players and we are looking forward to the start of the season."

Sousa said he was hopeful of bringing a few new faces in to strengthen the squad in the next few days.

Sousa has missed out on one target, Barnsley midfielder Hugo Colace who has decided to sign a new deal at Oakwell, but he has plenty more irons in the fire.

"We want to bring in some new players and add some different qualities to the squad," he said.

"We know what we want and we are looking forward to achieving that. I hope to have some players in soon."

    “Tony from Coolville
Take your hand of it. 25 Goals for Campbell talk sense he hasn't scored that many at our club in the time he has been with our Club. I agree with Thomas of Yorkshire the sooner we unload him the better our great club will be.”
