Leicester City suffer costly defeat
Leicester City’s play-off hopes are fading fast after Watford snatched a late winner at Vicarage Road.
Nigel Pearson’s side had fought back from going behind to an early Adrian Mariappa goal through two stunning strikes from David Nugent.
But a cruel deflected free-kick from Sean Murray and a 80th-minute strike from substitute Craig Forsyth gave Watford a 3-2 win and meant City continue to fail to make inroads on the top six.
For all the details, see Wednesday’s Leicester Mercury.

“That's your opinion valefox, I believe I am being realistic not negative.....Maybe the cup will be some joy for us this season.
I would also like a good finish and possibly back-to-back league wins but as far as promotion goes, not a chance...!!!”

I apologise to you if you feel insulted, nothing of that type was ever intended, but your comment "season over", is in a way an insult the club and other fans that still hold out some hope of a decent finish. NP, the club, I and thousands of other foxes supporters don't want to hear it, it is very negative stuff.”

“Valefox,
I'm actually a realist, get over yourself
I thought we were having a decent debate until you come back with insults.
Move on...”

I have no real preference in SGE or NP but changing managers after 13 games of the season is a wasted season, not a poor season, if either had been in charge and stayed in charge, and our plight was still the same then it may be a poor season.
NP's statement after the Watford game regarding stamping down on, and not wanting to hear negative comments from within the club/squad, such as "the season being over" was far more powerful than the one you quote from him regarding the performance, sorry but I cannot find the link to it, and that should extend to "all the negative net sayers" on here including yourself.”

“Valefox,
I do not wish to be included in the same sentence as all the negative net sayers, as I don't get to see the team too often so I can only comment on what I have seen, which the last two games have been Portsmouth and Southampton, one very poor display and one very good game....Inconsistency.!!!
I also have to say that a wasted season is pretty much the same thing as a poor season
I think that this statement from NP speaks volumes for the season that we have had, and the Jekyll and Hyde performances that we keep on producing week in week out.
"I am not happy with certain aspects of our performance tonight and the main disappointment is that what's improved our performances of late was missing in the initial period of the game.
"That's something I'm not prepared to accept."
Enough said...!!!”

“Yes Chappy all what you have mentioned has been told umpteen times. Our season is well and truly over if anyone thinks we are going to make the play-offs and to suggest we will be promoted is really 3 sheets to the wind.
Can't imagine what Man City or United would do for our spirits. We would be straight back down with our tales between our legs.
Nigel is a very good manager and will get us promoted by winning this division with his own team. Be prepared to loose players in the summer break. As the dream that Sven promised them, and the owners that we would be in the premier league at the end of this season is well and truly over.
Time now to try to win as many as we can and finish in a respectable position in the table. Then build a team for next season, and keep the faith.”

“I'll Tell you where we messed up,
We bought a lot of players, we bid for a lot of players, we never once asked the question of our existing players regarding their commitment. And we didn't hit the ground running.
From the minute we were out of the running last year, groundwork should have been started on lining up targets for this season, especially as we had a massive war chest. But we didn't, it was 5 weeks before Svens first signing.
We spent too long on some targets who never wanted to come here, from teams who didn't want to sell them.
We didn't do enough to get some of the proven loan players we had last season back permanently and we missed out on proven players who were avaialble.
But most criminally,
We believed the bookies, and the hype, we didn't just overestimate our own ability as a team,
We underestimated our opponents.
We shouldn't have been looking at how well we'd play against the top teams, because to be fair we've done alright against them. We should have looked at how well we will play against the rest when they play up and we have to dig in and grind out results.
It now looks like the top six in this division all did their homework. They play up against the top teams and grind out results and exploit the weaknesses of the small teams.
We have a massive achilles heal, out midfield are all one skill wonders, and unfortunately it doesn't include defending. Meaning our reasonable defence often are exposed making them look far worse than they are. Once teams know this they have no fear and soak up the pressure from our toothless attack, if players like Bamba and Mills go forward then the minnows see this as a bonus. Because they only have to clear it, run past our inept midfield in numbers with a few pacey players, and they pretty much only have schmeicel to beat, and whilst he has been our best player, he isn't superman.
We failed to prepare,
We can buy all the defenders we want and attackers we want but we have no service which comes from Midfield, and no support at the back, which also comes from midfield.
To be fair to Sven, the fans tried to tell him what we needed, and he tried to give them what they wanted.
We didn't need to swan off around Europe and Scandinavia in pre-season.. we should have hammered some lower league teams and got some confidence, and used the WHOLE squad.
MISSED TARGETS
Naughton, Cunningham, Vaughan, Yakubu,
if we'd signed these four along with Svens other signings - regardless of cost,
we'd be in a lot better situation now. In my opinon.
and we might have even attracted Robbie Keane..”

Your first words on your original post are "season over", that implies that you and many others have given up on this season. I too am realistic and think that it won't be our turn again this time around, but I do not see it as failed season, just a wasted one.
I was, and still am, "awake and smelling the coffee" when SGE assembled his squad of players with over inflated fees and salaries I feared the worst, the expectation level went sky high and now many fans cannot cope with the disappointment of what they see as a failed season, I see terms used on this forum such as "laughing stock and embarrassed", I don't feel or see any of those myself.
I have read and seen most of NP's interviews post Watford, one of which I can't find a link to, he talks very, very strongly about dismissing, and won't put up with any talk within the club about the season being over, something you and others should take note of.
Keep supporting the foxes until the final whistle, c'mon you blues.”

“Valefox,
If I wanted instant success I would support Man U, but I am Leicester born and bred, so it's in my blood.
I never said that just because we are mid-table obscurity that the team should just give up. I'm actually being realistic as opposed to you and a lot of others that seem to be holding onto the small amount of hope that actually dwindled out at Christmas when we did not nor did we look like we were contenders for promotion.
What I was trying to say is now is the time to start planning for next season and blooding some of the youngsters coming through to see whether they can cut the mustard, and bring them through as valuable squad members for a long season.
I also never said anything about the money we spent in the summer, I said "the squad that we assembled" should have been challenging but it hasn't, I don't see that as a very short sighted view I again see that for what it really is, which is a poor season.
I will continue to support the team at every opportunity that I get to see the games on TV, getting up at 2am to cheer them on. But I now no longer have any delusional thoughts that maybe somehow we might be able to just go on a run (this involves winning two league games in a row!!!) and scrape into the playoffs.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
Sorry one more thing, I refer you to the link below which is NP talking on LCFC.com after the Watford match, even he has finally realised that it is just not good enough.

The season is not over until the final whistle of the last game of the season, and even if the foxes were propping up the football league with 15 games to go, I would still, listen, watch and support them. As for "mid-table obscurity" do you and other likeminded types think that the club and team etc have given up and taken the same attitude, I think not, I am sure they will compete to finish as high as possible, and it is not "positive spin" it is what I and many other fans expect, ok it may not happen this season, so what, and have you forgotten, we are still in the FA cup, it's a tough ask but who knows.
No amount of money, overpriced and overpaid players are ever going to guarantee success, that is a very short sighted view.
As you say we are all aloud a point of view, and I am doing just that, so I say to you and all those that take the same attitude be patient and keep supporting your team regardless, but if you want instant success and glory, then go and follow one of those teams that are always winning something.”
