Leicester City could swoop for Preston midfielder Darren Carter
Darren Carter has emerged as a possible transfer target for Leicester City.
The 25-year-old midfielder had limited opportunities at Preston North End last season and could be allowed to leave.

Reports suggest City manager Nigel Pearson is considering a £750,000 offer for a player he coached while at West Brom.
A spokesman for City said: "The club does not comment on speculation."
Carter moved to Preston from the Hawthorns in August 2007 on a four-year deal. The initial fee was £750,000, rising to £1.5million depending on the number of appearances.
The Solihull-born player made 34 league and cup starts in his first season at Deepdale. He began last term in manager Alan Irvine's starting 11 before suffering an injury.
Carter featured in Preston's end-of-season run that took them to the Championship play-offs but made just 11 starts.
Whether Irvine believes Carter has a future at the club could depend on other developments. Nottingham Forest have tabled a £600,000 bid for fellow midfielder and club captain Paul McKenna, so the Preston boss may be reluctant to lose two players in that department.
Carter, an England Under-20 international, began his career with Birmingham City. After a short loan spell at Sunderland, he moved to West Brom for £1.5m in the summer of 2005.
During his spell at the Hawthorns, he worked with Pearson, who was assistant to Bryan Robson before a short spell as caretaker boss until the arrival of Tony Mowbray.
Carter has en eye for the spectacular. His stunning winner against Arsenal in October 2005 won West Brom's goal of the season, and City fans were given a sight of his power in March last year when a last-minute wonder-strike earned Preston a 1-0 win at the Walkers Stadium.
Meanwhile, former City defender Patrick Kisnorbo has declined an offer to join Australian A-League champions Melbourne Victoria.
Gary Cole, operations manager at the club, said Kisnorbo wanted to stay in English football. The 28-year-old has been linked with Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town.
The kick-off time for City's Championship game with Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday, October 3, has been switched from 3pm to 12.30pm on police advice.

“hmm, not sure about carter, but lets remember that we are a newley promoted team, and newcastle boro etc are a bigger pull than our club. so maybe np working in the pool of players in which he has a chance of getting. and perhaps carter is the best of that pool.
would have been great to have got davies before bolton snapped him up. need another like him i think.”

“We need another 'keeper, two midfielders (central and wide right) and another big forward. I suspect that Nigel Pearson already knows who they are likely to be. There's not point talking about "proven" players, it's meaningless. Many would describe Cox as "proven" yet he's done less in his career than Fryatt, who receives a lot of unfair criticism. It seems likely to me that we will be unveiling Richie Wellens, Dany N'Guessan and a striker (maybe Saidhodzha?) in the next fortnight. Hope they don't read the negative guff on here before they have to sign.”

“Fair point Pete, I hope you're wrong though. I just feel last year he was the fittest i've seen him, that adding an extra yard of pace, his finishing has improved also. I agree that we need another forward, but also feel that going into a season on the back of 30 goals, albeit in a division lower should give him the confidence to hit the ground running. And also have faith in MM, i think he will spend this summer, not vast amounts but will spend, hopefully trusting NP & his backroom staff to sourse the players to avoid a Hasslebank saga like last year.”

“He played him on the right a bit but he still got into the box many times and several one on ones when we all knew he would be too slow and 9 times out of 10 we were proved right. He did well last season and credit where it is due, but that was with a team that destroyed the division and he still did not finish top scorer in the league. He is simply too slow and weak to crack it in the Championship and fans still love him because we have a 'catchy' song about him. I know Leic fans are famous for booing and slagging off their team and that is wrong, but on the flip side we should not be simple sheep and follow what we are told - that is the job of our friends 30 miles up the road ..lol M Fryatt will not hack it this season in my opinion - I hope to be proved wrong but I guarantee I wont be. It is like when we were top of the Premier league that week under Peter Taylor and it appeared that I was the only one who said even then that we were useless and would go down as we somehow wone games but had poor players and he got rid of the good ones and unfortunately I was proved right. MM will not delve into his pockets and who can blame him in the current climate, but then we should not all celebrate having him if he does not delve into his pockets. MM was quick to slate us when we starting singing for M Allen at Forest but we have a voice and right of opinion and unless he starts bringing in quality rather than lesser team rejects he will not gain the full respect of the fans. The facts are clear - M Fryatt is not a quality 2nd div player - he is a very good 3rd div player and that is his level, even at that level he missed more chances that I have ever seen a striker miss, but as we know he did score some decent goals as he had plenty of time on the ball - something he will not get this season.”

“Lets hope those who are running the club see the pattern. We need at least one quality striker. Look at the squad lists for the opposition this season. Mayby someone like Chambers may develop but if we dont score we will struggle”

“Glad you followed them home & away Pete cause you'll know how in the relegation season Holloway, when he played him, played him wide right a lot of the time. As you say yourself he did OK the season proir. Its a big seasoin for him next season, but lets not write him off yet.”
