Leicester City are believed to be on the verge of signing West Brom striker Chris Wood in a deal worth up to £2million.

It is understood that the New Zealand international had a medical at the King Power Stadium yesterday with a view to joining the club when the transfer window opens in January.

The initial transfer fee is believed to be £1.25m with £750,000 in add-ons and bonuses.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Millwall and has scored 11 goals in 19 appearances for them this season.

Lions manager Kenny Jackett was also keen on signing the striker permanently once his loan spell ended.

It is believed Millwall have had a bid accepted, but Jackett is said to be resigned to losing the striker.

Wood will, hopefully, add some much-needed firepower to City's strike-force.

Their 0-0 draw at Hull on Boxing Day was the third game in a row that Nigel Pearson's men have failed to find the back of the net. In his press conference, Pearson was reluctant to give anything away.

"As I always do, I don't join in with the speculation until any business is done," he said.

"So until there is something positive to report, I think you do that at your own peril.

"If the right players are the available and we can do it, then yes (there will be business), but I'm not going to bring players in for the sake of it.

"We've got players who are capable of scoring goals at the club. At the moment, we've not been taking our chances – we have created quite a few chances in the last few games and not taken them."

“Yes he scored goals at City but was still a joke how he hit the deck when a moth flew by and yes we did do a Del Trotter on the scousers for the 11 mill.”

“Nothing wrong with Heskey. He did great for us then an £11 million transfer fee made others think that he was an out and out striker when he never was..

Always a great foil for his strike partner and others and chipped in with some important goals himself...

Tony Cottee & Steve Claridge & Michael Owen (3 big names there eh!) got loads of goals from Emile's great work and crosses.”

“Alan your judgement is normally sound but Heskeys?? Does this mean you want him wallowing on his backside every time the draught from an opposition player gets near him. Heskeys was an out and out joke for this.”

    “City_C10
I think that Nigel Pearson and his chief scout Walsh would have gone through Chris Wood's history with a fine tooth comb. Also Wood has scored plenty at this level.

For the money we paid, in my opinion Wood must be his best buy since we bought Wes Morgan. Who I put in front of Knocky in the purchase stakes. Anyway time will tell for the big guy in big Steve's old #9 shirt. He could become another Emile Heskey in his younger days.”

“Time and more importantly goals will see if Chris Wood is the right man for City. I wish him and Leicester all the best! However, I know nothing about him, that is all I am saying obviously City fans watch the Championship highlights (I do not) and they can make up their own mind. Is he better than Billy Sharp is as I said the games to goal ratio would answer that.”

In my opinion Chris Wood will run rings around Billy Sharp.”

“Thanks Ash and what good news. It should spur whoever concerned on Saturday on a bit. lets hope it doesn't make the person even more edgy and desperate then he normally is. It's everything we need a real striker and a "presence" up front. We need the same affect in mid field too so maybe watch this space.”

“Just seen it on Sky Sports, Both WBA & Leicester have confirmed the deal is done and will sign on the 1st January, no doubt is already training with us, so I would imagine he will make his debut on New Year's Day, so who ever plays up front on Saturday needs to bang some goals in, as they will be under pressure now”

“Hya Ash it's not been bad. Put on load of weight and the communications phone wise where I was can only be imagined. Middle of the Sinai would be easier. Hope you had a good one and everyone really. I must get on the view all button and see what everyone has been saying. Im glad to be back for a week and then it's sunnier climes. The point was a grind so I understand but if one point and goal difference gets us in the top six then its a golden point don't you think?”
