17 when he handed over his mayoral chains and under the authority's rules he
would have been disqualified as a councillor had he not turned up to a meeting
before November 17.
But the Labour group's whip Councillor Barbara Potter arranged
for him to sit in on tonight's Economic Development, Culture and Tourism
Scrutiny Commission.
Coun Wann is not a regular member of that committee but
stood in for another member who was unwell.
Before the meeting he told the Mercury: "It looks like I've
not been around for six months but I have been attending lots of meetings - but
they are not ones the council counts."
Coun Wann has been claiming his councillor's allowance of
nearly £10,000 and £1,200 for travel and subsistence.

“Perhaps we need a referendum forcing on the position of Lord Mayor? We can't, maybe as soon as one is forced for SPS he will start listening to people. Don't be fooled, he will change purely until he has the approval of the referendum”

“"Sansue, you miss the point: he was allowed to keep his seat by attending a meeting for which he would not normally be recognised as attending - not one of his committees. But he was allowed to stand in for another councillor - that may be allowed but as far as I am aware never actually happens.
That's the technicality: if it was done to keep his seat, then the people in his ward have been manoeuvred out of getting rid of a liability."
Doesn't matter if he normally attenda or not. The law says (and this is a direct quote) "if a member of a local authority fails throughout a period of six consecutive months from the date of his last attendance to attend any meeting of the authority, he shall, unless the failure was due to some reason approved by the authority before the expiry of that period, cease to be a member of the authority".
Blame the law if you blame anything.”

“Rob wann is a local councillor for Thurnby Lodge which is part of Thurncourt ward I wonder why he hasn't attended any of the meetings? One such meeting a matter of weeks ago... £10,000 for doing what exactly? I'd say his presence is needed in his ward right now, can't see him for dust! Disgusting he is taking a wage and not earning it.”

“"So he gets off on a technicality?"
No, he gets off because he didn't break the law. Bit of a difference.
However, its still not morally right that he can do this with no good reason.”

“One meeting in six months...
Robert Wann: Working hard for the people of Leicester.
@:"Coun Wann has been claiming his councillor's allowance of nearly £10,000 and £1,200 for travel and subsistence."
Happy to poke his snout into the public trough- but can't be bothered to, er, do the thing he's being paid for.
When will Leicester finally be rid of this sorry man?”
