Leicester MP Vaz has meeting with the Pope
Leicester East MP Keith Vaz yesterday enjoyed a rare opportunity to attend an audience with the Pope.
Mr Vaz travelled to the Vatican City, in Italy, as part of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Holy See, to meet with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
The occasion marked the second time the Labour MP and practising Catholic had visited the Holy City to meet the Pope and he took the opportunity to invite his Holiness to Leicester. Pope Benedict is set to visit Britain next year.
Whilst in the Vatican, he also met with His Eminence Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State and one of the Church's highest ranking officials. Mr Vaz said: "I was honoured and thrilled to meet the Holy Father."

“Of what benefit will this trip be to the constituents of Leicester East or is this all to do with a twinge of conscience after an awful and torrid time this MP has had?
Are we to see these costs on his "reformed" expenses claim?”

“Bandwagon Vaz could lend him a cushion or two during the visit. Freeloading trip of no use to his constituents or this Country.”

“It will be interesting to see the reason why Mr Vaz had to attend this. How is this going to benefit his local constituents? How much did this cost the taxpayer? Another freeloading trip, probably with business class flights, high end hotels with expenses!? Can the Leicester Mercury obtain the costing at all for this trip... now that would make interesting reading!”

“I look forward to Mr Vaz's letter to the Mercury pointing out that in fact the Pope was granted an audience with him.”

“I bet the trip will be claimed for on MPs expenses.”
