Leicester Mercury Opinion: Rumours had to be put to rest
Leicester City's statement in support of Nigel Pearson is a welcome move which will hopefully bring an end to the rumours which have been swirling around the media about his future.
It is an important step because the City manager and his team have put together a superb run of successive wins which has given everybody cause for optimism this season.
Yes, it is early days and there is a lot of football still to be played. However, the team are clearly making strides in the right direction.
The last thing that is needed at this time is speculation about the manager's future which can only unsettle the team and the fans.

Putting that to rest is the right thing to do.
We have said from the outset that Pearson is the man for the job.
And we have also said repeatedly that a period of stability is vital to City.
Successful teams need time to build and constantly chopping and changing managers is counter-productive.
So, we are delighted that the rumours of Pearson's imminent replacement have not transpired and that City are sticking by their man.
Now that the air has been cleared it leaves the manager and his team able to focus on the one thing which really matters – playing football and hopefully keeping this impressive run of results going.
We will be there tomorrow cheering on the team against Bristol City and we know that all of Leicester will be wishing Pearson and his players the best of luck.
