Brookes has made only three appearances for Tigers this season and just six during an injury-ravaged two years at the club. He is out of contract this summer.

All the noises from Newcastle are that former Tigers' director of rugby Dean Richards is keen to make Brookes' move permanent next season.

Now in charge of the Falcons' bid to immediately retain the Premiership status they lost last season, Richards said: "It is a loan deal for the time being, which we will look to cement at a later stage, all being well.

"He can play all three positions across the front-row, he has an outstanding skill-base and is back at Kingston Park for a second spell.

"His time at Leicester has not provided as much game-time as he would have wanted, and he has fallen out of favour.

"Sometimes that just happens, but he has the ability to make a success of things and we look forward to working with him."

Tigers winger Alex Lewington, 21, and prop Jonny Harris, 22, are also expected to leave the club this summer, with London Irish understood to be in the running to sign them.
