Leicester Tigers fans are set for a mouth-watering spectacle this weekend as the top two sides in English rugby go head to head.

Tigers, who sit on top of the Aviva Premiership table, go to the home of second-placed Harlequins at the Twickenham Stoop this afternoon.

But it is the defending English champions who hold bragging rights over Richard Cockerill's men, having beaten them on the last two occasions the sides have met, including last season's Premiership final.

Here is a look back at the previous three encounters between two of the leading sides in English rugby.

Tigers were left licking their wounds after they slumped to their first Premiership defeat of the season and their first at Welford Road in nearly a year.

Their previous defeat on home soil also came at the hands of the champions 11 months earlier when they fell to a 27-18 home defeat in October.

Harlequins scored the only try of the game through Tom Williams, alongside points from the boots of Nick Evans and Danny Care, while Tigers' nine points all came courtesy of Toby Flood.

Tigers were unable to make it three Premiership titles in four seasons as they succumbed to defeat in front of nearly 82,000 at Twickenham.

Richard Cockerill's men took the lead only once in their eighth successive final when Steve Mafi scored his seventh try of the season.

But Tigers were chasing the game for the majority of the encounter as tries from Williams and England captain Chris Robshaw and 20 points from Evans kept them on the back foot. Despite a late try from Anthony Allen, Tigers were unable to stop Harlequins from claiming their first Premiership title.

Venue: Twickenham Stoop

Tigers fought back from 13 points down to register a bonus-point victory over the then-league leaders in a thrilling encounter – one of the games of the season.

Despite an early try from Thomas Waldrom, Tigers found themselves 26-13 down with just minutes to go before the break.

But Tigers found 10 points in the space of five minutes through a converted try from Steve Mafi and a penalty from Flood with the last kick of the half.

Flood nailed an early penalty kick in the second half, but Harlequins soon replied with a converted try from George Lowe that put them 33-26 ahead.

It was Tigers who roared into life in the closing stages though, as the pressure tolled and two more tries from Waldrom and departing Alesana Tuilagi sealed Tigers' place in the Premiership semi-finals.
