Leicester councillors hoping to be chosen for cabinet
More than 20 Labour councillors have been grilled about key roles in a local authority.
A 10-strong cabinet – which will make most important decisions about the city – will be selected by party members tonight.
Cabinet and committee hopefuls had to nominate themselves last week.
Interviews were carried out at the Town Hall over the weekend by party bosses.
Leaked application forms obtained by the Mercury show who has gone for the jobs.
Piara Singh Clair, Paul Newcombe and former cabinet member Robert Wann have applied for the culture and leisure portfolio, currently held by Andy Connelly.
Abdul Osman, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, will challenge regeneration lead Patrick Kitterick for that position.
Outgoing leader Ross Willmott said: "I didn't put myself forward for a position for the same reason I didn't put myself forward as leader. I am the Labour candidate in North West Leicestershire.
"If I win, I don't plan to stay on the council."
Stephen Corrall has applied to be cabinet member for community cohesion, while Wayne Naylor put his name down for community safety and health.
Adults and older people lead Rory Palmer, environment lead Sarah Russell and housing lead Paul Westley have all re-applied for these positions.
Last week, Veejay Patel and Vi Dempster were selected as leader and deputy of the Labour group.
