Leicester pupils lend a helping hand to earthquake appeal
A group of primary school children has raised more than £800 for people in Haiti. The class of 31 youngsters, from St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, Knighton, organised the fund-raiser after hearing about January's devastating earthquake. The children , aged eight and nine, were sponsored to walk hand-in-hand from their school grounds to Knighton Park – about one-and-a-half miles away - to raise the cash. Teacher Jim McGill said: "Everyone at the school has been really supportive and it's great that the children came up with the idea themselves." The earthquake on January 12, left more than 210,000 dead, about 300,000 injured and an estimated million people homeless
