Leicester racecourse urges Ladies Race Day crowds to avoid bringing cars
Leicester racecourse has urged crowds to avoid turning up in cars for what had been planned as one of their big events of the year.
The torrential rain has waterlogged the Oadby track’s large grassed car parking areas.

Crowds planning to come to Leicester racecourse on Saturday are being urged not to use cars
Tomorrow’s Ladies Day had been a capacity 7,000 sell-out with 1980s tribute acts ABC, Heaven 17 and Belinda Carlisle performing at the end of the day’s racing.
The race meeting was called off on Thursday morning because the course is waterlogged and all ticket money will be refunded.

However, organisers instead decided to make the day a free event with a covers band playing, concession stands and the pop concert.
But racecourse officials want to avoid people turning up in cars for the event and instead urged people to use buses, taxis or even walk, if they are local.
They said the day will still go ahead as planned with doors opening at 11am and the main live music commencing at about 5pm until 7.30pm.
People were also advised to wear suitable footwear such as wellies and walking boots.

“Don't worry too much about the 31 being the only bus, whenever I stand in Charles Street waiting for my bus a 31 seems to pass every few minutes.”

“No doubt some will still turn up in cars, get stuck and then blame the racecourse saying "no one told us". Last time I went to an event at Leicester Racecourse I parked off site and walked to the venue although if everyone did that the local streets would soon get clogged up. The only buses to pass the venue are the 31 & 31A.”
