It was very much high fives all-round for Nigel Pearson's in-form Foxes as they maintained their winning form in the npower Championship with a 2-0 success over Bristol City.

David Nugent's fifth league strike of the season and Richard Foster's own goal secured Leicester's fifth straight victory - following excellent away wins at Middlesbrough and Huddersfield - and also brought their fifth win in a row at their King Power Stadium home.

The result took the midlanders top of the table prior to Cardiff's televised late afternoon clash at Ipswich, but the success did not come without a cost, with the Foxes losing three players through injury.

Paul Konchesky was forced to withdraw at the break, Jamie Vardy hobbled off in the 51st minute, and then after 63 minutes Republic of Ireland international defender Sean St Ledger also picked up a knock.

The Robins, who had chalked up a league double over Leicester last season, had almost snatched the lead inside the first minute, Jody Morris meeting Sam Baldock's cross but his six-yard header was saved by Kasper Schmeichel.

The Foxes responded well and after eight minutes a left-foot shot by Lloyd Dyer was tipped over the crossbar by City goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

The visitors, the second-highest scorers in the Championship going into the contest, with 18 goals, had certainly not come to sit back and defend in the early stages and following a corner from Morris into the heart of the Leicester box, Liam Fontaine sent a 10-yard shot wide of the right-hand upright.

Leicester's former England striker Nugent headed over from six yards out in the 28th minute, but he made amends just 60 seconds later. Vardy's long ball from the back caught the Robins rearguard napping and Nugent raced through one-on-one with Heaton and drove a low right-footer into the bottom corner.

Heaton kept City in the hunt with smart saves from both Nugent and French ace Anthony Knockaert in the space of a few seconds in the 36th minute.

The Robins had lost their record as being the only Championship team not to have gone in trailing at half-time - and boss Derek McInnes decided to replace Baldock with Steve Davies in the 59th minute.

Fontaine fluffed a good chance to bring City level in the 71st minute, the big defender heading an inswinging corner from Morris over the top from six yards, and that miss proved costly as the Foxes forged further ahead on 74 minutes, Andy King's left-wing cross being headed into his own goal by the unfortunate Richard Foster.

It brought up Leicester's 50th goal against their west country opponents and was enough for them to chalk up their fifth straight league win for the first time since February 2011.

As for the Robins, they have now failed to win six of their last seven league outings.

“we are blessed with strength in midfield, but whereas last season under sven we had no width, , only dyer, who sven refused to play. we have , under pearson played with two wide men , usually any two from dyer , marshall and knockaert. with both marshall and knockaert having the ability and permission from NP to move inside . so this only leaves two central midfield spots . i think pearsons original plan was to have danny drinkwater as his attacking midfielder and main playmaker and matty james as his defensive midfielder , or destroyer.
it hasnt quite worked out with james , but no way could NP put danns in james place , because to be blunt, the guy cant tackle.
gallagher , cant play there either , cus hes also too soft in the tackle, and he was not fit enough anyway, wellens would have been ok but was also injured, so this left andy king who seems to be doing ok .
when danns was played on the wing in certain games last season , people seemed to say it didnt work ( though i can remember seeing him score one and make one for sol bamba from the wide left position at crystal palace last season.
so to me it looks like danns has just been unlucky and will only be brought in when DD is either injured suspended or loses his form.
its hard for him because in some games last season( derby away springs to mind ) he ran the show , but because of his tackling (or in my opinion , lack of tackling) he may even be sent out on loan to retain match fitness.
when the season started i thought marshall/ gallagher would be fighting for one wide position, dyer/knockaert for the other , james and wellens for the defensive midfield spot and drinkwater / danns/ king all battling for the attacking midfield spot ... in that order .
but king scoring those two goals in the opening two games seems to have launched himself in front of danns, so whereas i stated pre season kingy could be out of here , in january, it could be danns sold , or at least loaned out.”

“Why cant we have opinions and thoughts without sarcasm. I think posters should be vetted to determine if they are in fact intelligent enough to register a post. Some most certainly are not !!!!”

“Why is Danns being out of the team/ squad a mystery to everyone on here?

Yes, he is a very good player, yes he can change a game. He was given an opportunity to impress against Burton but didn't, and since then everyone else has been playing outstandingly well. We have a very good squad of players, you can only field 11 at once. At the moment 4 of them are midfielders and they're doing very well so Danns can't get in. In 3 months time he may be a regular and we'll all be saying why are Kingy or Knockaert or Drinky not in the squad, boo hoo. It's a squad game, get over it.”

“Outfoxed i saw Danns pre season and he stood out like the outstanding player. It must be NP can man manage certain players and not others which is very strange. Maybe he has just one way with all of them which suits with most but not all.”

“Hann i was negative but a lot of things made me so. NP didnt seem to be able to handle the Beckford/Danns problem (Danns still same). He has also had to be forced to see the problems De Laet has by the fact that we win when he aint there and the injury made him make a very satisfactory change. No detriment to De Laet as he has admitted he has made mistakes.

Jamie Vardy lacks confidence and is very anxious and edgy in front of goal (Even pre season). All in all though things have come on by leaps and bounds.

Yes Ipswich out played Cardiff first half you would have thought they were the form team. Nice to see wellens. They ran out of steam 2nd half and rued not taking first half chances.”

“The Dans saga is a mystery to me also as he was class last season and a real hard worker so should have fitted into Pearsons ethics but hey with Kingy back for and Drinkwater starting to prove his worth a place on the bench is probably all he'd get at the minuet even if he was in NPs plans?
As for Beckford? You can't argue he's got a great finish and bags of skill but from the short highlights you get to see on tv it seemed he has more desire to play elsewhere than for us which is a shame but there ya go.”

“Steady Dobranich - don't want you getting too positive! Interesting comments about Cardiff. Didn't see their match (saw highlights on FL Show and looked to me like Ipswich had a lot of it). I agree there's nothing in this division to be too concerned about. Blackburn, Wolves and Bolton all appear to be stuttering a bit and they're the ones with the supposed PL quality. Them struggling a bit coupled with the start we've made and our signings gives me a lot of confidence we can be right up there at the end of the season.”

“Good to see forest stuttering and Derby are well...................not great. Blackburn are no great shakes we made them look good defending like a conference side and shooting like one too. Im glad all that rubbish seems to be sorted or at least mostly. Jamie Vardy is a great addition giving everything but striker he aint. you could in fact say.........

Jermaine Beckford tryer you aint. Striker you is.
Jamie Vardy tryer you is. Striker you aint.

Sorry folk couldnt resist i hope im proven totally wrong.”

“OUTFOXED Congrats on score prediction. Good post. Both full backs were poor its true. Was clever NP using De laet in a different role. He didnt do a great deal but then he couldnt make major balls ups either. The subs were clever. Still would like waggy to get more time on the pitch. cant figure the Danns thing i like him a lot. He would be a great addition to any team out on loan.

    Cardiff were indeed amazingly ordinary.”

“And.... Please can we stop all this infighting on here and concentrate on the positives such as we're just one point off the top and looking good for promotion even at this early stage?
    Thankyou. COYB!!!”
