Leicestershire council leader Nick Rushton in rail jobs plea to No10
County Council leader Nick Rushton has raised his concerns about the proposed High Speed 2 rail route at Downing Street.
Councillor Rushton travelled to Westminster on Thursday for a reception and spoke with Transport Secretary Sir Patrick McLoughlin and his cabinet colleague, Eric Pickles.

The 250mph train line is earmarked to cut through rural north west Leicestershire without stopping, as it links Birmingham to Leeds.
It is, however, set to pass through the site of a proposed rail interchange – expected to create 6,000 jobs.

Coun Rushton has also written to Sir Patrick asking him to intervene in negotiations to prevent the loss of the scheme.
The interchange is planned just to the north of East Midlands Airport and is to be developed by Roxhill Limited.
Roxhill is discussing the plans with the Department for Transport and HS2 Limited.
Coun Rushton said: "Discussions between the developer and the Government are at a crucial stage. We cannot risk losing 6,000 new jobs."

“There is no advantage in having HS2 run along the M/A42. Derby have said that they want it and would run along the Old Roman Road aka A38”
