Some of Leicestershire's top law firms have given their backing to a university's awards event to support its best and brightest students.

Representatives from law firms Nelsons, Astills and Freeth Cartwright were on hand to present prizes to students at the Leicester Institute of Legal Practice, part of Leicester De Montfort Law School, who had achieved the best results on their courses.

Kerrie Deakin, who heads up the institute, said: "The links we have with local firms are absolutely key for us. It means that we know of any vacancies and can inform the students."
