FROM June 18 to 24 it is Recycle Week and residents are being encouraged to think about how they get rid of their rubbish.

The Leicestershire Waste Partnership wants everyone to consider how they might "recycle at home and away" during this week and beyond.

The idea is that people will remember to recycle wherever they are, whether at home, at work or out and about.

As well as encouraging continued use of kerbside services, everyone is encouraged to recycle when they are not at home.

Many of us are recycling more at home than ever before, with three quarters of us now reporting it as a way of life.

The recycling rate for Leicestershire now stands at over 54 per cent.

The Leicestershire Waste Partnership is also holding a series of roadshows around the county as part of recycle week:

  • Tuesday June 19 - Melton Farmers Market
  • Thursday June 21-  Loughborough Retail and Moroccan Market
  • Saturday June 23 - The Heart of the Forest Festival

“Belgrave area has a great recycling policy.Just chuck anything in the street and the few street cleaners that are left will clean it up.Will be too late by 9 am monday to see.So lets just say the usual Maryland/Pizza boxes/containers.Bins on the street, tampons ,nappies.....It goes on.Shall not comment on the spitting.Just look at the walls on the former BUSM building.”

“I think the "orange bag" system has been a great success. It's easy to use as you don't need to sort things that much, and I note that large numbers of households have multiple bags of recycling out each week.”

“How do you define recycling? I used to recycle but not anymore. Reason. When ever I went to the tip if I saw something I could reuse I would offer to buy it, I used to buy cycles refurbish them for kids in Braunstone. The more affluent dispose of many useable items such as lawnmowers and like. That is recycling. But for reasons of their own you can no longer buy anything. So I do not recycle.”
