Leicestershire's dole queue shrinks
The number of people out of work and claiming Jobseekers' Allowance in Leicestershire fell by 303 last month, according to figures released today.
The claimant count now stands at 23,146 after the city saw a drop of 18 to 13,045 between April and May, while the county figure declined by 285 to 10,101. It is the second month in a row the claimant count has fallen.

“Banksider, I think I have to agree with you there. This is a pointless exercise that doesn't really give a clear picture both locally and nationally. What we need to see is true figures so we can understand and maybe tackle unemployment better. Whilst lies or fudged figures continue to flow, it is only going to look rosier but get in fact probably get worse. A single figure for the whole amount of non working benefit claimants should be calculated - this would give an accurate idea of 'true' unemployment in this Country.”

“As the father of an unemployed child, I suspect this is no more that "fudging the figures" as the jobless are moved from the job seeking queues to being 'in training' or whatever the latest buzz words are this month. What we should be given the the total of ALL categories in where a person does not have a job, regardless of what 'queue or list' they are on.
Move 500 from job seekers to In Training, and it all looks rosier. It's a con - civil servants playing with statistics.
There are very few jobs for those with good qualifications, never mind those with very few or no qualifications, and yet Government is trying to be chipper about it.
Try telling that to someone who is one of the long-term unemployed who wants a job. You may be lucky and like my child be offered a place, two bus rides away (hour travelling each way) for which the sum on offer was £2 per hour. Not even the minimum wage for an over 21. Talk about slave labour and exploitation!!!!!!!”
