“ALLeics,
you are absolutely right as the stats do not measure unemployment
they only measure who is not being paid a benefit
Many are being targeted to come off benefits and this will make the figures look better, but the reallity is wholly diffferent always”

“Good to see more people being employed!
the number though make interesting reading though
Reduction in those claiming allowance down by 1.5% in both City & County
Reduction in Jobs advertised down by 15%
the latter number is a worrying trend with 700 less vacancies advertised in the jobcentre (which is what is measured) - and yes I appreciate that jobs are advertised in many other places”

“These statistics are always so misleading - they sell them as a 'give em a pat on the back for reducing unemployment' story but it says nothing of the background. My husband is an example, having recently claimed jobseekers allowance after a spate of part-time temporary jobs he's been told that he's not contributed enough NI over the last 12mths to receive any more JSA so he will now count as being 'off the dole queue' as he no longer claims - however he's not in work or claiming any other benefits so disappears from the statistics - sure there must be 1,000s in the same situation. Just think we need to be careful we've these very top line numbers!”
