A hosiery manufacturer is designing tights for dancers at the Moulin Rouge in Paris after securing a six-figure contract with the world famous cabaret club.

Pamela Mann, in Hinckley, has agreed a three-year deal to create a range of 18 designs bearing the name of the French tourist attraction, which welcomes 600,000 spectators each year.

As well as being worn by the club's can-can dancers, the tights will be sold at the Moulin Rouge official store and stocked in department stores across Europe.

The contract looks set to create an extra two or three extra jobs at the Upper Bond Street firm, which employs 30 people, and boost its £3.5 million turnover.

Managing director Rob Morris said: "This is significant for us not just in terms of the value of the contract but because Moulin Rouge is a very high profile brand.

"The tights we are manufacturing for the dancers at the club are a special kind of tights worn by professional dancers and the others are fashion items.

"It is very difficult for us to put an estimate on how much this will eventually be worth but we have the licence for three years.

"These are exciting times for us."

Mr Morris said up-market French department store chain Galeries Lafayette was already interested in stocking the products.

The company aims to make between 20,000 and 30,000 pairs of the current designs which include polka dots, Toulouse Lautrec prints and diamante embellishments in the shape of the club's iconic windmill logo.

The tights, which have been designed by the Leicestershire company, will be made in Italy but some of the range will be sent back to Hinckley to be embellished and printed.

Mr Morris said: "The quality of tights made in Milan and Venice is the highest quality in the world.

"We still do some manufacturing in Hinckley and do a lot of exporting to places such as France, Germany, Japan, Israel, South Africa and Scandinavia."

In the next few weeks, the firm will be meeting with buyers from major departments stores.

Later this month, it will showcase the new products at the Associated Independent Stores Intimate Apparel Show, a large industry buying and trade event taking place in Solihull.

Jean-Jacques Clérico, chief executive and owner of the cabaret club, said: "Pamela Mann has done a wonderful job of capturing the very essence of the Moulin Rouge."
