Local rugby: County set for decider
Leicestershire and East Midlands will meet at Belgrave on Wednesday in a Midlands Group A decider in the National Under-20 Championship.
Leicestershire beat a spirited Cambridge University 15-0 in their latest group match at Belgrave.
East Midlands also made it two wins out of two with a 42-14 victory against Warwickshire at Broadstreet.
Replacement prop Kieron Stone of Syston scored both of Leicestershire's tries which decided the game after an evenly-contested first half at Belgrave Pastures.
Fly-half Guy Swadling of Hinckley kicked a first-half penalty and converted one of Stone's tries.
At Broadstreet, East Midlands scored seven tries, five of them in a dominant second-half performance.
Warwickshire had the edge in the forwards throughout but East Midlands eventually made their superiority behind the scrum count.
They ran in a total of six tries with four of them in the second half.
That booked a winner-takes-all clash with Leicestershire, beaten semi-finalists last season, for a place in next month's Midlands final.
That is on March 10 at a venue yet to be decided.
The quarter-finals of the national stages of the competition are on Saturday, March 27, the semi-finals on Saturday, April 17, and the final at Twickenham on Saturday, May 1.
