Loughborough's Ben Gregory grabs pole-vault gold
A dramatic jump-off saw Loughborough's Ben Gregory claim gold in the men's pole vault in the British Universities & Colleges' Championships at the Sheffield Institute of Sport.
Both Gregory and Nick Crutchley, of the University of Birmingham, ended the competition with a best jump of 4.95metres and the same number of fouls, sending the competition into an extra round.
It was Gregory who emerged victorious after he was again the first to clear 4.95m.
He described the win as "awesome."
He added: "I want to thank all the guys at Loughborough for the support they have given me.
"Nick is a great competitor and I was really pleased to be able to beat him."
Loughborough's Kirsty Milner, 20, won a thrilling 3000m final.
She beat Bristol 21-year-old Imogen Ainsworth to the gold by 15 hundredths of a second in a sensational race which went right down to the final 100 metres.
Sally Scott, also of Loughborough, won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.10m and then made an unsuccessful attempt at the Championship record of 4.15m.
Her Loughborough team-mate, Abby Haywood, was third.
Jonathan Broom-Edwards, also of Loughborough, finished joint runner-up in the high jump after clearing 2m.
The winner, 24-year-old Simon Phelan from Galway in Ireland, cleared a height of 2.09m.
Huncote's John Heywood finished 19th in the over-60s category of the British Masters Cross-Country Championships held in Belfast.
Heywood completed the four-lap course at Stormont Estate in 36min 48sec.
The race was won by Desmond Michael (Barnet) in 29.48.
